A remarkable hike! You must drive for some 2 hours to come there, then its approx a 2,5 hours walk every way. Be prepared with good shoes, hiking clothes to keep you dry and warm. And bring some to drink and food as well. Consider weather reports and advices before hiking. And consider your physical condition for hikes like this. If you are not experienced into hiking, it might be too hard.

There is no road to bring you here so you have to go by ferry or boat (public transport). Then you can walk 4444 steps up stairs to reach a beautiful view. A nice round trip indeed. There is also a gallery here. I think also there is a small cafe and guest house.

From here you can take the Lysefjorden tourist ferry into Lysefjorden during the summer months. Its a spectacular ride. You can bring your car. Its also the startpoint of National Tourist Road Ryfylke (road named rv 13; one of the 18 national tourist roads in Norway) So it can be a good way to reach the startpoint for a hike to Kjeragbolten. I will advice you to book ferry in advance. After hike you can drive down road named rv 45 down the montains leading into to road named E39 back to Stavanger and house.

The drive along the Norwegian scenic route Ryfylke (road no. 13) is a trip full of contrasts. Here you will encounter high barren mountains, lush hillsides, sheer montainsides and deep fjords. This road is one out the 18 national tourist roads and can be a good alternative going from Stavanger to Bergen or to Odda, depending on your time. It starts at Tau and stretches into the Ryfylkefjords. You need to take the ferry from Stavanger to Tau to get to the road. Its a 30 minutes ferry ride. Its well worth driving and you will find several attractions along the road as it turns along the fjords.

To some extent this road differs from many of the other tourist routes – it’s quite simply a regular all-purpose road. On this route you must be prepared to share the road with all those who use it every day. Just treat this as part of the experience, and keep in mind that being stuck behind a farmer on his tractor in fact gives you a better opportunity to spot all the nuances and features of the landscape – the cultural heritage, the ocean, the fields and the eternally changing light. This coastal landscape is unique and completely unlike anything you will find in other parts of Norway. To get the strongest impressions you should probably stop the car by now and then.
