Neighbourhoods
Belhaven is a large beautiful beach close to Dunbar and abuts the John Muir country park. Ideal for sunbathing, swimming, surfing etc. There is a surf school on the beach. The other thing not to miss on this beach is the ‘Bridge to Nowhere’
The walk from Dunbar to Belhaven along the coastal trail is spectacular.

Sightseeing
North Berwick is a popular seaside town a few miles away from Dunbar. It has a thriving town centre with interesting shops and great eating places (we particularly like the Herringbone restaurant). The sea life centre is well worth a visit. For golfers there are 2 great courses to play, both with spectacular sea views from many of the holes.

Tantallon castle is owned and run by Historic Scotland and well worth a visit. Afterwards (or before) visit Drift which is very close to the castle. This is a cafe built from shipping containers. As well as great food the views of the sea with the Bass rock close by are spectacular.

Dirleton castle is a few miles drive away from Dunbar and is well worth visiting. The Archerfield estate (home of the Renaissance golf course which hosted the Scottish open in 2019) is close by and has an excellent restaurant for breakfast or lunch. They brew their own beer there!

Dirleton castle is a few miles drive away from Dunbar and is well worth visiting. The Archerfield estate (home of the Renaissance golf course which hosted the Scottish open in 2019) is close by and has an excellent restaurant for breakfast or lunch. They brew their own beer there!
Edinburgh is only a 25 minute drive away from our home and can also be easily accessed by bus and train.

East links family park is great for families. It is a farm based attraction with a train running through paddocks of farm friendly animals. There are lots of other activities such as trampolining, go karts and a soft play area.

The John Muir country park is a nature reserve covering some of the most spectacular East Lothian coastline. It is named after the famous naturalist John Muir who was born in Dundee and is best known for having established the national parks in the USA.

The borders are very close and well worth visiting. Peebles in particular is a very attractive border town.
