A short stroll from the flat, a walk up above the duck pond will give you a stunning vista of the Edinburgh skyline. Also a perfect spot if you're in town during any of the fireworks as you can see both Carlton hill and the Castle from here.

Just out the other side of Inverleith Park the Royal Botanic Gardens are a lovely free activity to do on a sunny day. They also have a lovely restaurant that serves a good brunch.

After a trip to Edinburgh most people who know the city will ask if you climbed Arthur's Seat. If you have the time and inclination I would highly recommend it but you won't be alone, it is very popular with locals and tourists alike. It takes about 40 minutes up and down at a gentle pace, there are a few routes so can take longer if you want to walk the crags also. It can be muddy and the top section does get slippy, it also gets really windy up there so take a scarf and a hat!
Start the route from Holyrood Palace, if you want to make a day of it walk down the other side to the Sheep Heid pub for Sunday lunch.

You can join the Water of Leith Walkway at Stockbridge and walk it in either direction. Walk towards Leith and you may spot a couple of eery Anthony Gormley statues in the water. At the end you will find The Shore of Leith with lots of restaurants and pubs, Teuchters is a fave! Walk in the other direction and you will pass St Bernhard's Well, beautiful Dean Village and end up at the Modern Art Galleries.
