This lovely neighborhood has the distinction of being surrounded by Riverside Park and Morningside Park. As a result, it is quite easy to escape to a peaceful oasis of green whenever you need a break from the pavement and bright lights of the Big Apple. It is the kind of place where you can easily encounter lush, leafy areas and majestic courtyards if you know where to look. You can’t mention Morningside Heights without discussing the iconic learning institutions that are located here. The neighborhood is home to Columbia University, Barnard College, Teachers College, the Manhattan School of Music, Union Theological Seminary, the Cathedral School of Saint John the Divine, Bank Street College of Education and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. In fact, Morningside Heights is often referred to as Manhattan’s Academic Acropolis. The world-class institutions here draw great minds from all over the globe. You’ll find that the neighborhood is filled with so many interesting and intellectual residents. As a result, there is never a shortage of cultural events to attend. Art shows, musical concerts, plays and art exhibits are all commonplace throughout the year. Shopping is a breeze when you live here. There are tons of quality grocery stores and great restaurants in the neighborhood. Tom’s Restaurant, located at Broadway and 112th Street, was used as the exterior shot for the diner that Jerry Seinfeld and his friends famously ate at every week. Residents use the subway at Cathedral Parkway and Columbia University stations to get around. City bus service includes the M4, M104, M11, M60 SBS routes.
