Neighborhoods

The Skyway neighborhood where my home is located is absolutely lovely. All houses are beautiful and from the 1940's, 50's and 60's. Walking around this neighborhood is lovely. Skyway Elementary has a playground and is 5 blocks away. There's another community park with super unique playground blocks away as well. It's very walk-friendly, take a lap around the block, enjoy some sunshine and enjoy this very safe, friendly neighborhood. We are nestled up to the hills. The Skyway neighborhood is bordered on the north by Bear Creek Park, to the east by 8th Street and to the south by North Cheyenne Canon Park and to the west lies Gold Camp Road and the National Forest. Views are abundant from in this area both of the mountains and east to the city below.

Food scene

The Caffeinated Cow is a local & independent coffee and ice-cream shop in walking distance from my Airbnb. It's owned by Jake who is wonderful! Their ice-cream comes from Licks in Denver (an Ice-cream shop people stand in line for hours to eat). They let you try an unlimited amount of samples. It has a great vibe, coffee is awesome, breakfast burritos are homemade and delicious and ice-cream flavors change daily. Try the Cowlorado--ice-cream with an espresso shot over it. It is THE BEST! And if Jake is in tell him Hally sent you. He might hook you up.

This is a super unique local gem. It's a 100% vegan restaurant and bar. They have delicious and creative drinks, their vegan nachos are awesome (and I'm not vegan or vegetarian). It's in walking distance from my Airbnb and this place has a super cool vibe. Whether it's lunch or dinner this place is awesome and has great service. You won't find anything else like it so it's a must-try while you're here. It's also right next door to the Caffeinated Cow so get dinner here, try some of their cake and then finish your night out with ice-cream and a walk home. They also have a lovely outdoor patio with a view of Cheyenne Mountain in the summer.

This place is a local gem and a MUST visit! It's an old elementary school that's been turned into a community gathering place with multiple businesses inside. It hoses Bristol Brewing Company, the Kitchen (amazing food), The Principals Office (local bar & coffee shop), Yobel which is a market for handmade goods, the Axe and the Oak which is a whiskey distillery. It also has concerts, a run club and fitness classes. It's a 2-minute drive from my Airbnb or a 15-20 minute walk through the sweet Ivywild neighborhood. Ivywild School is a place where neighbors, friends, colleagues and visitors can meet and mingle. A place where you can enjoy great local fare and share ideas. But it’s also much more than that. It’s a flourishing communal atmosphere linking commerce and community with gathering spaces, local cuisine, education, art and gardens. Formerly an elementary school, Ivywild’s façade still holds true to its roots as reimagined spaces fill the halls once again with the voices of children and adults alike. A virtual and literal hotspot of activity throughout the day, Ivywild is always full of energy. Whether it’s bakers baking fresh bread and pastries in the morning, friends meeting for coffee or craft-brewed beer over lunch, gardeners harvesting the fruits of the season, or people gathering for a small concert or film in the former gym, the school provides an inviting space for kids of all ages. Wide hallways afford plenty of space for relaxing or viewing the ever-changing art offerings. Multiple patios provide al fresco seating in the building’s beautiful Rocky Mountain setting. And a highly-walkable “public square” will host farmer’s markets, festivals, and other special events. So whether you just want to pick up your morning joe and a freshly baked bagel, linger for lunch and an afternoon cocktail, or grab local produce and some meat for dinner, Ivywild School will be a hub for meeting, eating, drinking and neighboring.

Hike the foothills, search for mule deer, and discover Bear Creek! Scrub oak thicket, ponderosa pine forests, meadows, a mountain creek, and abundant foothills wildlife attract children and adults to Bear Creek Regional Park and Nature Center. Interpretive programs, special events, guided and self-guided tours, and media presentations are offered all year. Outside, two miles of self-guiding nature trails wind through the short grass prairie, scrub oak woodlands and cottonwood riparian communities. The nature trails are for “foot traffic only” and pets are prohibited. The regional trails are open to hiking, horseback riding, and pets on a leash. You can also get here walking or biking from my Airbnb and if you're feeling adventurous you can actually connect into Red Rocks open space. Bear Creek Park also has a world-renowned dog park, an incredible playground and big beautiful grassy spaces that are great for picknicks, frisbee and just hanging and reading a book.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a 1,474-acre (2.3 sq mi; 6.0 km2) city park in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is situated on the west side of the city, adjacent to Manitou Springs and south of U.S. Route 24. The park consists of a series of parallel ridges (called "hogbacks") and eroded canyons, a continuation of the same sandstone rocks of the Fountain Formation that make up Garden of the Gods a few miles to the north. Rather than being pristine conservation land, the park contains a number of reclaimed former industrial sites, including quarries, gravel pits, a gold refining mill, and a 53-acre (2.3-million-square-foot; 214.5-thousand-square-metre) landfill. The land parcels were purchased piecemeal by John George Bock in the 1920s and 1930s, and acquired by the city of Colorado Springs in 2003 for use as a recreational site. Today the most visible scars from past exploitation of the land are the remains of the Kenmuir Quarry, which produced Lyons sandstone in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the Gypsum canyon landfill, which operated from 1970-1986 and remains off-limits to park visitors. The park contains many miles of trails of varying difficulty that wind through and around the rock formations, and is popular with hikers, joggers, and mountain bikers. The park trails connect to the Intemann trail to Manitou Springs and the Section 16 conservation area to the south. Technical rock climbing is allowed with a permit. If you're up for an adventure you can bike or hike here from the house.

Stunning and a very short doable hike. Worth the stop for sure. If you want a harder hike, head further up the canyon to the parking lot at the top and do 7 Falls Trail.

Beautiful and challenging out and back hike. If you’re feeling ambitious do all 7. But even if you just stroll up the trail and see the first 2-3 it’s a beautiful hike. Make sure to make a reservation with the Broadmoor as these fill up fast!

Sightseeing

Only a 5-minute drive from my Airbnb, the Broadmoor is a hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Its visitors have included heads of state, celebrities, and professional sports stars.. The main resort is sits at the base of Cheyenne Mountain, is 6,230 feet (1,900 m) above sea level, and 5 miles (8.0 km) southwest of downtown Colorado Springs. Historically, national and world skating and hockey championships were held at the Broadmoor World Arena. Golf championships have been held at the Broadmoor Golf Club since 1921. The resort has also been the site of clay shooting championships. Stay for less at my Airbnb, then head over to the Broadmoor and enjoy hot coco by one of their many fireplaces, grab a drink at the historic hotel bar or at the Golden Bee (a local bar with a TON of character). Take a walk around the lake and enjoy the swans and flowers in the summer and the incredible light display in the winter. All their restaurants are exquisite as well. My favorite is Del Lago because you can look out at the lake and the Italian food is to die for!
