Things To Do

Dine, Shop, and Play!

Below I've listed a few of the cities in our area but there is a lot to do outside the city as well. Hiking, boating, fishing, rafting, zip line tours, waterfall chasing, photography and bike trails. A few of my favorite places to go are Bald Rock Heritage Preserve with it's panoramic views, Caesar's Head State Park, and The Pretty Place at Symmes Chapel (especially for sunrise). These three are all close in proximity and easily done in one day trip. In some of the smaller towns nearby you'll find great hometown atmosphere with antiquing, museums, and dining experiences. Once you realize all there is to do here you may decide to book a longer stay.
Greenville has made it into so many national Top Ten lists in recent years that it would be a daunting task to list them all. No wonder so many visitors make this home! Stroll down Main Street and you'll find a wide array of shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, & more. If you're not up for walking, take a trolley or a horse drawn carriage ride. On the west end is Falls Park on the Reedy, a 32-acre park with a 345' long suspension bridge traversing high over the river and stunning waterfall. Many paths run through this scenic park, including the Swamp Rabbit Trail which runs from Greenville to Traveler's Rest. Rent a bike and make the trek to TR, then stop for a bite to eat at one of their many great restaurants. Every Saturday, during the months of May-October, Greenville closes down a portion of Main Street for Saturday Market. There are also numerous outdoor fairs and special events throughout the year. The Arts scene is vibrant in Greenville, from the Village of West Greenville's first Fridays, to the Peace Center's Broadway plays and other premier musical artists and regional productions. The city is home to several smaller live theater venues as well where you'll likely to pay less but catch some top-notch entertainment. If you like sports, Fluor Field in the west end is where Greenville Drive, our minor league baseball team plays. It is a Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and the field is a replica of Fenway Park. While there, pay a visit to the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, across the street. The Greenville Swamp Rabbits is Greenville's professional hockey team and a night at Bon Secours Wellness Arena to watch them play is always a great choice. Greenville is amazing! #YeahTHATgreenville

Historic downtown Greer packs a lot of punch into a small downtown area. Just a 15 minute drive away, downtown Greer Station provides food offerings to satisfy every foodie. Find your new favorite shop from among independently owned boutiques, antiques, local crafts and more. Take in a concert at Greer City Park or maybe a culinary class at Plate 108. Greer is an up and coming place to check out while in the Upstate.

Spartanburg is home to a dynamic arts scene and is the fastest-growing downtown in SC. Visit a historic battlefield, Walnut Grove Plantation, parks, gardens and art museums, and the popular BMW Zentrum tours (be sure to book ahead as these are very popular tours). Spartanburg has a lot to see!

A short drive into the mountains and you'll find the diverse and vibrant city of Asheville, NC. Asheville has a great food scene, shopping, and many festivals throughout the year. It is also home to The Biltmore Estate (the largest home in America), where you can take a self guided tour of the Vanderbilt family's Summer residence. The tour includes access to ever changing exhibitions inside the home, as well as the estate's immaculately maintained gardens and pathways, and Antler Hill Village and Winery.

Hendersonville, NC is another nearby mountain city and a fun place to spend the day. A shopper's delight with it's many unique and independently owned shops and boutiques. There are several dining choices here but I am consistently drawn back to Hannah Flannigan's Irish Pub for Bangers and Mash. Oh my! Some other things to check out while in town are the largest model railroad in western North Carolina, housed in the historic train depot in Hendersonville (check ahead for hours of operation); Grandad's Apples, a fourth generation, family owned and operated apple farm; or Elijah Mountain Gem Mine where you can become a prospector from the 1800's and mine for real gem stones that you can keep. Hendersonville is a gem of a town!
