This way, you can return next time you are around. Blackbeards has been here since the island was first established as a community & it will be here for a LONG time

Ok. This is not your normal burger, fish sandwich. Mahi Nic's is one of the only scratch kitchens that provides supreme quality ... because they are a small building with very laid back seating. Do not overlook this spot, they will give you some of the best burgers & MAHI SANDWICH that will blow your socks off. Not to mention the largest fries you will ever see. They are phenomenal.

the RGV (brownsville) is famous for its historic international airport & all the famous pilots that have been through their in the past. Now, Elon Musk is constructing the FIRST interplanetary space port to transport humans to mars. This is area is about an hour from south padre island & you can take photos next to these prototype rockets so you can say, "I was there when they built the first space port in the world to transport humans". You can also get on the beach, 4x4 needed, & hang with your group while the rockets are in the background

Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge
People that enjoy hiking, running out doors, etc. would have a good time here. This is a long group of trails located out in the Bayview tx area. There are wild animals, & during the right season you will catch beautiful migratory birds & butterflies in all colors. Summer time it is very hot, but a good sweat is sometimes needed when you have been enjoying SPI's food/drink scene.
This is our favorite for sunsets/sunrises. You can drive out to the end of the road & climb the sand dunes to get to a high point. You will find some flat spots & be able to lay out in privacy. No driving on the dunes, so use one of the entry points for vehicles before. Otherwise, get off your car & walk to the water or the dunes.

Brownsville Tx, is a very safe family city that has been investing heavily into its downtown area. There are many boutique type stores, restaurants, cafes, & artsy stores that you can find there. The Mitte cultural district is home to the art museum & the nationally recognized gladys porter zoo. 7th and park coffee is a must if you are there in the area & Hueso del fraille. The Mitte cultural district is named after the Mitte family. (Mitte from the breaking bad series was Walter whites son in the show & his family donated to the city of Brownsville). There is also a great children's museum in Brownsville that can provide some entertainment for those with children.

You will drive by Port Isabel on your way to the island but make sure to take time to go by again while you are staying. Port Isabel has flea markets on the weekend, the lighthouse square is a great spot for food & some shopping.
