A few of our favorites restaurants here are Bodo's Bagels, the Corner Juice, Roots and Mellow Mushroom. There is also a Sheetz store where you can find basic groceries.
Main Street was bricked over and turned into a pedestrian mall back in the 1970's. Today it is a vibrant local hub for restaurants, bars, shopping, movie theater, live performance theater, live music, and street musicians. Many restaurants have outdoor seating on the mall. McGuffey Park is one block off of the mall with a modern playground and picnic benches. There is free parallel parking on side-streets nearby. Additionally, the Water Street Parking Garage and Market Street Parking Garage are located on either side of the mall.

From the Riprap trailhead you can choose between a shorter out and back trail( ~3.5 miles) or the full loop trail (~10 miles). Instead of hiking to the top of the mountain, this hike offers a variety of classic Virginia elements (open views, wooded paths, river crossings, and plenty of elevation change).
*This trail is inside of Shenandoah National Park, so you must purchase a park pass at the kiosk at the park entrance

This spot is used by runners, bikers, and walkers. If you're looking for a quick hike without driving outside of the city, this a great option. Be prepared to share the trail with mountain bikers and friendly dogs!
This link has a map of the trails and recommendations for parking. If you map yourself to the observatory, you will see lots of pull-offs for parking once you head up the hill and get up to the observatory loop.
