One of the better-kept secrets on the Minnesota North Shore, this was one of our favorite sections of the Superior Hiking Trail when we through-hiked the trail together. Superior Hiking Trail Section 13 is a 3.5 mile very lightly-trafficked out-and-back trail located near Finland, Minnesota. It features beautiful wildflowers and is rated as challenging. The trail features an elevated loop at the end of this out-and-back trail.

This is our new favorite hiking trail! It features the newly-completed section of the Superior Hiking Trail and culminates in some of the most sweeping views the Minnesota North Shore has to offer. At 4.5 miles and over 600 feet of elevation gain, it can be a tiring hike, so bring water. There is one section of extremely steep rock face on the ascent to the summit (stay to the left on your ascent if it is wet), but it is worth it!! Rubber tips for the hiking poles are strongly recommended for this trail. Be sure to follow the signs for the SHT there and back as there are several (much less picturesque) options to the summit. Enjoy!
