This is the largest mall in Envigado. Located just a short walk from Envigado Metro station through a convenient bridge that connects both. It houses 3 major brands primarily: Exito, Decathlon and Homecenter under one roof. That itself will give you an idea of how big the mall is. Apart from these, it also houses almost every single major brand. Happy City, on the top floor, is a very big amusement park with some rides for kids including a Ferris wheel and numerous video games. Food court has almost every type of food to choose from. The Provenza neighborhood is today one of the most frequented places for a night out. There are eight blocks: from 10th to 7th streets and from 36th to 32nd avenues. There are around 207 shops, including shoe stores, furniture stores, decoration stores, clothing stores, restaurants and bars. A sector that was born with a residential vocation, in the last ten years has seen dozens of businesses arrive that have animated its days and, above all, its nights. Listed as a must-see in Colombia by countless travel guides on the internet. The Commune 13 in Medellín surprises for its history of resilience and social transformation, from the colors of impressive murals and graffiti by mostly local artists, to a neighborhood life as genuine as the inhabitants who kindly welcome the people who come to visit it. San Javier or The Commune 13 is one of the sixteen communes of Medellín and is located to the west of the city, in its 74 km2 it houses more than eighteen neighborhoods. The tour guides are often people who inhabit the neighborhood and who are testimony of its history, young people rap and breakdance and an escalator in the middle of the place lead to one of the most impressive views of the city; its colors, buildings, and mountains. The Medellín Metro station closest to The commune 13 is the San Javier station, the last one on Line B heading Central – West. To get to the San Javier station it is necessary to get to the San Antonio station on Line A and descend to locate the stairs that lead to Line B. Once at the San Javier station you can take a taxi to get to the escalators or take the route 221i or 225i bus that you take at the traffic light stop on the right leaving the San Javier station, both can leave you two blocks from the escalators, where the Graffitour begins. Do not forget to tell the driver where you are going to let you know where to get off. Once you are at the San Javier station, instead of descending there, you have the option of taking Line J of the Medellín metrocable to contemplate Commune 13 of Medellín and the entire city from the air, an enriching experience not only for the landscape, if not for the invitation to be aware of the contrasts of this Colombian metropolis.  Our recommendation is to leave this plan for the end before leaving The Commune 13 or at the beginning and return to the San Javier station to go to the escalators since if one of your plans is to visit the neighborhood and enjoy the Graffitour, seeing it from the air will not be enough.  Both in the Metro and throughout the city it is very difficult to get lost, because the people of Medellín, recognized for their kindness and spirit of hospitality, will always be willing to help you locate, even if they do not speak your own language, with their ingenuity they will seek the way to tell you how to get to your destination. Recommendations: * Use sunscreen * Wear comfortable clothing. * Keep hydrated. Water is also a must for outdoor tours. * Invest in the territory, promote local products with their consumption, and try to contribute with your presence to the development of sustainable and responsible tourism. * Take a tour with local guides. Definitely, they are the ones who know the history of the neighborhood best. * Take a camera, and carry it with enough memory space. The Graffitour of Commune 13 is full of graffiti and its composition and history will make you want to take a picture of each one; This is perfectly the most instagrammable place in Medellín. In addition, from the highest part of the escalators, you can see a privileged view of the city. Enjoy!

Traditional Vietnamese food with some vegetarian options. Lemoncillo is a fantastic place to feed your south-east Asian taste buds with top quality dishes. Excellent variety and great service. It’s very hard to find good Asian food here, so having a small but unique place like Lemoncillo in Envigado is a game changer. Pho, Ban bo, salad rolls, fried tofu, and some other savory dishes are the stars in their menu. Their own ginger lemonade or “Lemoncillada” is just fantastic. If you like it hot, you have options with spices and hot sauces. Just be careful, some of them could be too hot for some. I really recommend this place as the guys who work and serve the food are always eager to please and very friendly. If, like me you have missed Asian cuisine and are looking to re-ignite your taste buds then this is the place to go. Transversal 33 Sur 39-39, Envigado. They also have a terrace set with good music, and a decoration with a lot of energy to share a good drink. On top of all that it has easy access, the area has large parking lots, very comfortable and relaxing, perfect for enjoying a night out. Medellín is well known for fast food, being arepas, butifarra and chicharrón are some of Medellín’s typical fast food, even thought Medellín has evolved and adapted international recipes to make them how they like to, and Grill Station Burger is one of this places responsible of the evolution of fast food in Medallo. Grill Station Burger is a modern fast food restaurant which is located all over Medellín, like El Poblado, Los Colores, Laureles, and City Plaza, being the Laureles. Winners of the Burger Master Prize in 2018, it deserves o be in this guest book. They have a great variety of food being burgers the best but not the only main course option found in the menu, as other things like salads and wings can be ordered, but we will be focusing in the burgers. They are are obviously the main and most attractive focus of the restaurant being the angus burger the most famous one because of its sweet and sour combination, sweet bbq sauce and sour cream cheese being accompanied by a sweet bread, some fresh vegetables and a delicious melted cheddar cheese, but the other burgers in the menu are actually pretty good, unique, and not very expensive. I would really recommend this restaurant to everybody no matter how old they are or what they like because is a very diverse restaurant in all ways. Web-page: http://www.thegrillst.com/

City/town information

The Rock of Guatapé or simply La Piedra or El Peñol, is a landmark located in the town and municipality of Guatapé , Antioquia. The town of El Peñol which borders Guatapé, has also historically claimed the rock as their own and thus has led to different names for the site. Guatape is located in the Antioquia province of Colombia.  It is about 2 hours east of Medellin, an easy trip on a public bus. If you have more time, it is fabulous for an overnight stay so you can visit the rock and the towns nearby. Guatape was primarily a farming town – the economy of the region was agriculture and a little mining.  In the 1970’s an enormous hydroelectric project created a man-made reservoir and today’s landscape.  The Gautape reservoir and dam not only creates more than 30% of Colombia’s energy but supports the tourism industry of Guatape. Peñón de Guatapé towers up to 200 meters (656 feet) above its base. Visitors can scale the rock via a staircase built into one side, a path that includes more than 649 steps to the top.Near the base of the Rock, there are food and market stalls for shopping. About halfway up the stairs, there is a shrine to the . The summit contains a three-story viewpoint tower, a convenience store, and a seating area. The town of El Penol, which you look at from the top of La Piedra Del Penol ‘The Guatape Rock’, is actually a new town. The old El Penol is underwater. The hydro-electricity project took the old town when the lake was created. The old El Penol is now almost completely underwater. Tens of thousands of residents had to be relocated to the new town. There is now a huge cross that sticks out of the water in the lake, which marks the spot where the old town is now submerged under water. You can stay in El Penol, however, it is common to stay in Guatape, which has a vibrant old town and lots of adventure activities and hostels. The walls of the buildings in Guatape are so beautiful. Each panel has a 3D painting on it with a scene from a village or a mountain. Each building is a work of art and it makes wandering around the town seem like you are moving through an art gallery. If you happen to stay a few days in Medellin, this landmark is a must-see and explore. At The Martini House, we offer a day tour to this spectacular place and if you prefer to stay overnight, we can also suggest some places to choose from. Just let us know and we will be glad to arrange it for you.

Santa Fe de Antioquia is one of the best preserved colonial cities in Colombia. It is one of the most popular day trips that can be done from Medellín. In addition to the city of Santa Fe de Antioquia, you can also visit the Puente de Occidente, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Santa Fe was the capital of Antioquia from 1584 to 1826 at which time the capital was transferred to Medellín. The city has preserved its historic center practically intact, making it one of the best examples of the colonial cities of Colombia, along with Barichara, Villa de Leyva, and Cartagena de Indias. The city has retained intact the character and feeling of a town with several hundred years behind it with its narrow and cobbled streets, its white houses with typically colonial carved wooden balconies, small churches, and its central square that serves of social gathering center of the city. Very close to the city is the Puente de Occidente, one of the most interesting engineering works of the 19th century in South America. It is a suspension bridge almost 300 meters long over the Cauca River. The landscapes in the area are really beautiful. If you are interested in visiting this charming town, let us know and we will arrange it for you.

The small town of Santa Elena is located just east of Medellin, in the mountainside and approximately 10 miles away from the city center. The weather is normally cooler due to its elevation and its soils are rich with nutrients that local farmers enjoy for growing an abundance of tropical and local varieties of flowers, may of which are exported to international markets abroad. Santa Elena is also the birthplace of the ornate flower arrangements called silletas that are the cornerstone of the Flower Festival or Feria de Las Flores in Medellin. Held every year in August (typically a dry month for Medellin), this festival incorporates the local flower growers of Santa Elena. Inhabitants from the different villages (called veredas) build amazing works of art with the seasonal flowers. These pieces are built using natural materials including a wooden base upon which a wide variety of flowers are decorated. Afterwards, the Silleteros march down from the mountainside village of Santa Elena with the designs strapped to their backs (called silletas). Many citizens and tourists alike make a pilgrimage every year to the small town of Santa Elena the night before the parade in order to witness the artistic construction of their designs and to toast their work. Santa Elena also offers year-round attractions as well to local, national and foreign visitors. One of these ecological marvels is Arví Natural Park, with its expansive 28,000 acres of natural reserve that extends into the municipalities of Medellin, Bello, Copacabana and Envigado. Sunsets from the ecological park are very popular and attract many visitors who wish to see their beauty. Viewpoints such as La Laguna, Patio Bonito, La Meseta, La Paloma and Cerro Verde offer a wide variety of visual gratification as one takes in the lush green surroundings of the area. The park can be accessed from multiple locations including the township of Santa Elena. Please let us know when you want to visit, and will be glad to arrange everything for you.

While its name is Parque Explora, it isn’t really a park. It’s actually an interactive science museum with over 300 interactive activities. In addition, there is a large aquarium, a terrarium (with frogs, snakes, turtles and other reptiles), an outdoor dinosaur exhibition, a small television studio, a 3D movie auditorium, restaurants, cafes and a souvenir shop. Kids love all the interactive activities and also the aquarium at Parque Explora. So, you will see many families with kids at Parque Explora. There is an entrance fee with discounts for people over 60 years-old, students and children. On the weekends and on holidays it can get very busy with some long lines. So, it may be better to visit during the week when it is typically much less busy. But there can be some school field trips during the week. Parque Explora is a popular tourist attraction in Medellín. And it is easy to get to, since it is located next to the Universidad metro station on Line A of the Medellin Metro. Found in the downtown area of El Centro, Museo de Antioquia is a grand building that overlooks the busy Plaza Botero. Home to a range of exhibitions, the museum offers a unique insight into the department of Antioquia and Medellín’s role in its story. Whether you’re an art-lover, a history buff, or simply want to soak up local life, a trip to Museo de Antioquia is a great activity. The museum was first founded in 1881 at a different location in Medellín. It was Mayor Juan Gómez Martínez who suggested using the old Municipal Palace in El Centro for the project. The idea coincided well with plans to renovate the deteriorated part of the city, and soon after, Plaza Botero began being constructed too. At its current location, Museo de Antioquia opened October 15th, 2000. All 23 statues in Plaza Botero were inaugurated a year later. Since Botero first donated to Museo de Antioquia, he has since invested much of his artwork in Medellín for free. He is widely respected and praised by Paisas for his dedication to the city. Even if you’re not familiar with Fernando Botero, you’ve most likely seen his work all around the world – including Park Avenue in New York City and the Champs-Élysées in Paris. In Colombia, Botero is certainly the most prolific painter and sculptor. He was born in Medellín in 1932. He initially went to matador school to learn to become a bullfighter, but after changing his mind, he went on to pursue the arts, living overseas and studying the works of famous artists in Madrid, Paris, and Florence. Pieces by Botero are best known for featuring plump, rotund people, animals, and objects. The artist did not consider his subjects “fat” but rather considered it an exploration of proportion, volume, and form. His works are identifiable for their distinctive and playful style, yet still, explore important themes. Botero’s subjects range from still life to local characters and cityscapes here in Antioquia, to bullfighting and the culture surrounding it, and the increasing violence in the era of Pablo Escobar, all of which are done in his signature style of ‘Boterismo’. Currently, there are more than 100 works by Fernando Botero in Museo de Antioquia. The fastest and most convenient way to get there is using the Metro. Take Linea A (Line A) to Parque Berrío (there are now announcements in English on the metro that this stop is for Museo de Antioquia). In the station, follow signs for the exit in the direction of Plaza Botero. Once outside, continue straight for one block, following the direction of the train line above. You’ll soon see a large black and white chequered building – this is the Rafael Uribe Palace of Culture, and the beginning of Plaza Botero. Turn left once you pass the palace and across the plaza is Museo de Antioquia. Address: Calle 52 #43. Opening hours: 10 am – 5.30 pm Monday to Saturday, 10 am – 4.30 pm Sundays and holidays. Inspired by the medieval castles of the Loire Valley in France, El Castillo was the country house of Dr, José Tobón Uribe, founder of the Pasteur pharmacy, who commissioned its construction in 1930. After his sudden death in 1942, the Castle was acquired by Don Diego Echavarría Misas and his wife Benedikta Zur Nieden, who expanded the construction and decorated their spaces with valuable works of art, many acquired in their many trips and are cultural heritage for Medellín and bring visitors closer to the splendor and beauty of art and the culture of the world. Decorated with works by Colombian masters, European artists and valuable pieces such as early 20th century furniture, Baccarat glassware, tableware and porcelain from European manufactures, as well as numerous works by Colombian masters in ceramics, painting, sculpture and other disciplines. Likewise, the El Castillo Museum offers a varied program of artistic training by the Museum's School of Arts. It is an iconic place in Medellin for the history it has. It offers a good guided tour.
