If you want some good country cooking, this is the place. However, if you go there and there is a parking lot full of cars just know that you will not get in and out of there in a hurry. If you have the time, the food here is tasty. This place is a favorite among locals and tourists alike.

The Benton Falls Trail is an easy 1.5 mile (each way) hike to the 65 foot high waterfall. It is just under 14 miles from us and is just under a 30 minute drive. It is a nice easy hike that can be enjoyed by the whole family. There is also a lake that is right near the parking area that is a great place to swim or hang out and picnic with the family. They also have some mountain bike trails there and you can take an easy ride around the lake with the family or hit some of the other trails there as well. I recommend downloading the AllTrails app to your smart phone. It is a free app and will provide you with directions, trail map, and a trail description. This is a fantastic waterfall hike that is only 8 miles or about 12 minutes from us. Please be aware that there are a few creek crossings on this hike and depending on the water level you may get your shoes wet. Sometimes you can rock hop, but may want to bring and extra pair of shoes or be prepared to have wet feet. It is approximately a 1.7 mile hike to the falls, so round trip is 3.4 miles. After reaching the first set of falls, take a trail to the left and up a steep hill for a short walk to the second set of falls. There is a nice swimming hole at the second set of falls, but it is a little steep getting to the second set of falls. Getting to the first set of falls is easy and is a family friendly hike that could easily be done with kids. I recommend downloading the AllTrails app to your smart phone. Jacks River Trail to Beech Bottom is in an absolutely gorgeous area with some stunning waterfalls. This is a very remote area with an abundance of wildlife. It is 21 miles from here, but takes right at an hour to get there. The last portion of the drive is all dirt roads and is slow going. Not the best road and a little rough in some places, but I can make it in my Prius if I dodge the rocks correctly. A SUV or truck would be more ideal for this one, but is manageable in a car if you are careful. Also, the trail is not clearly marked at all times and can be confusing, so I would definitely recommend printing or downloading a copy of the map to your phone. There are several creek crossings on this trail, so I would recommend bringing a pair of sandals or something to wear when crossing to not get your hiking boots wet. is a 14.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Epworth, Georgia that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. For first time snorkelers, the abundant aquatic life on the Conasauga River is a great place to start. This is 18.3 miles from us or a 38 minute drive. Near the Georgia-Tennessee state line is a premier snorkeling area known as the Conasauga Snorkel Hole. Several thousand fish will be present on any given day. The experience is like swimming in an aquarium full of fish. Turtles, tadpoles and salamanders are all usually present. Freshwater drum as large as 6 pounds swim in schools in the deep pools; sporting fish, such as bass and bream, are seen in their natural habitats. Colorful darters and shiners may be seen spawning and feeding. Remember, enjoy the wildlife but do not harm them or take them home with you. The Conasauga Watershed contains 76 native fish- more than the Columbia Watershed and Colorado Watershed combined! The ancient age of the Southern Appalachian Mountains has enabled aquatic species in small watersheds to attain extreme levels of diversity compared to the much larger western watersheds. Salamanders, mussels, snails, crayfish and other invertebrates show similar levels of diversity to fish.

Seven-acre McKamy Lake offers a swim area with a sand beach, and fishing from the bank. Boats are allowed, but gasoline motors are not. Also, within the recreation area are approximately 25 miles of hiking and biking trails, and a scenic waterfall. On the drive up to the campground, stop at one of the many observation overlooks to see beautiful mountain settings. Wildlife is abundant in this area, so have your camera ready and tread lightly. Encompassing more than 20 miles of trails, the Chilhowee Trail System stretches from Parksville Campground at the bottom of the mountain to Chilhowee Recreation Area at the top. Because of the change in elevation (from about 600 feet to over 2000 feet) this trail system offers some challenges to both the mountain biker and the hiker. Many of the trails either cross or pass near Clear Creek which tumbles off the mountain in cascades and water falls all along its length. Trails in the Chilhowee Recreation Area offer more moderate hikes around a seven-acre lake or winding through the campground loops.

Ruby Falls is located in Chattanooga, TN is just under an hours drive from us. It is the nation's tallest and deepest underground waterfall open to the public. The breathtaking falls were accidentally discovered by Leo Lambert in 1928 deep within Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Lambert named the falls after his wife, Ruby, and opened the Chattanooga attraction to the public in 1929. Today, Ruby Falls welcomes over half a million visitors each year from around the world. Descend 260 feet by elevator into historic Lookout Mountain to explore the underground cavern, see the falls and discover why this unique destination has been named one of the best things to do in Tennessee for over 90 years. Adventure awaits at Ruby Falls! I recommend purchasing tickets in advance before making the drive as they only have so many slots available and sometimes fill up.
