Silver Lake – it’s about a 15 minute drive from the house, but worth it. Take a dump pass with you. It’s unlikely anyone will collect it from you, but just in case. Take route 113 south to route 41 south. After a couple of miles, take a left onto East Shore Drive. Follow signs for boat ramp. Beach is on left, on East Shore Drive, next to boat ramp.

Hiking
The trail for Madison Cascades is behind the parking lot of the Madison Historical Society. Go south on route 113 and where 113 makes a sharp right turn, keep going straight and the historical society is on the left right there. At the parking lot, there is a little hill with a fence. Walk to the right around the fence, up the hill and you will see the trail. It's about an hour round trip, not too difficult... lots of cool waterfalls.
Madison Cascades
55 E Madison RdThe trail for Madison Cascades is behind the parking lot of the Madison Historical Society. Go south on route 113 and where 113 makes a sharp right turn, keep going straight and the historical society is on the left right there. At the parking lot, there is a little hill with a fence. Walk to the right around the fence, up the hill and you will see the trail. It's about an hour round trip, not too difficult... lots of cool waterfalls.
Easy, very short, flat - Madison Boulder is right off route 113. Coming south from Eidelweiss drive, the route you take is Boulder road about 1/2 mile down route 113 on the right. The boulder is maybe a 5 to 10-minute walk down a very flat path. It's pretty neat though... one of the biggest boulders on the east coast... if not the biggest. Once you’ve seen the boulder, you can walk the miles of other trails there, but the boulder is the main attraction.

Madison Boulder
Easy, very short, flat - Madison Boulder is right off route 113. Coming south from Eidelweiss drive, the route you take is Boulder road about 1/2 mile down route 113 on the right. The boulder is maybe a 5 to 10-minute walk down a very flat path. It's pretty neat though... one of the biggest boulders on the east coast... if not the biggest. Once you’ve seen the boulder, you can walk the miles of other trails there, but the boulder is the main attraction.
Moderate - Bouder Loop. (20-minute drive) You drive down the Kangamangus (route 112) for about 7 miles to a parking lot on the right. There's a covered bridge. Either walk or drive over the covered bridge and follow the signs for boulder loop. It's about an hour or so of somewhat steep hiking to get up there. Well worth it.

Boulder Loop Trailhead
Passaconaway RoadModerate - Bouder Loop. (20-minute drive) You drive down the Kangamangus (route 112) for about 7 miles to a parking lot on the right. There's a covered bridge. Either walk or drive over the covered bridge and follow the signs for boulder loop. It's about an hour or so of somewhat steep hiking to get up there. Well worth it.
My favorite hike is Mt Chocura (25 minute drive). It's the mountain with the bald peak that you see on the left when you drive up to my house. Mount Willard
If you are looking for the biggest bang for the buck, this is the most amazing view for a relatively easy hike… maybe an hour or hour and a half to the summit. Take route 302 towards Crawford Notch. Park at the Railroad Depot next to the AMC Conference Center and the trail starts just across the tracks.
Mt Washington (45 minute drive)– If you are going to do this hike, take the Tuckerman’s Ravine Trail. It’s the easiest (easy being a relative term), and the shortest drive. It will take a solid 6 hours round trip… at least 4 up and 2 down. Trailhead is at the Pinkham Notch Visitor’s Center.

361 NH-16Mt Washington (45 minute drive)– If you are going to do this hike, take the Tuckerman’s Ravine Trail. It’s the easiest (easy being a relative term), and the shortest drive. It will take a solid 6 hours round trip… at least 4 up and 2 down. Trailhead is at the Pinkham Notch Visitor’s Center.
Very short, very close, very steep – hike to the top of Oak Ridge Drive, the road you drive up to get to the house. The view at the top is AMAZING. 5 minutes of walking to the top.
