A place easily missed on the road but Restaurante Raices is fantastic! Carlos, the owner, had trained and worked as a chef in a restaurant in New Jersey and then started his own here. He speaks English and his food is different than the typical Costa Rican fare. Not air-conditioned but comfortable at night.

The best grocery store in town as far as cleanliness and offerings. There are cheaper options but you won't find non-Costa Rican items.

Neighborhoods
Buenos Aires is real Costa Rica! Laid back, quiet, safe and inexpensive! Many locals in restaurants and stores can speak some to a lot of English. In the center of town there's a nice park to sit in, plenty of eateries and shops.

City/town information
Uvita is one of the closest towns with a beach and roughly 90 minutes away. Plenty of English spoken here as there are more foreigners than locals. Although everything is substantially more expensive (touristy) here, you will find fantastic beaches.

Uvita is one of the closest towns with a beach and roughly 90 minutes away. Plenty of English spoken here as there are more foreigners than locals. Although everything is substantially more expensive (touristy) here, you will find fantastic beaches.
San Isidro de El General, also know as San Isidro (there are many towns with this name in Costa Rica so be careful) but most commonly referred to as PZ or Perez Zeledon, is a 50 minute drive away. PZ has a small mall, movie theatre, plenty of American restaurants like McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, etc. There is also a large Walmart (but not a SuperCenter). There is a lot of English spoken here as well due to more foreigners living there.

San Isidro de El General, also know as San Isidro (there are many towns with this name in Costa Rica so be careful) but most commonly referred to as PZ or Perez Zeledon, is a 50 minute drive away. We have gone ziplining here twice and it's absolutely fantastic! The staff are very well trained, speak English and respectful of people's concerns/fear of heights/etc. Osa Canopy Tour is on the way to Uvita so you may want to combine the two, however, reservations may be required so contact them ahead of time.

Osa Canopy Tour
We have gone ziplining here twice and it's absolutely fantastic! A local sport bar that serves cheap, cold beer and hard alcohol. It's a small spot, darkish inside but comfortable with very good eats! Some English spoken here.

Sightseeing
Playa Ventanas is the closest beach to Buenos Aires that tourists visit. Paid parking is enforced here but it's inexpensive (price per car was ₡2000 in early 2021).
