About the House

It is a wonderful island property, but with that comes some differences in amenities of a mainland home. We have a small, sensitive septic and encourage outdoor showers while asking that you be conscious of water usage. We require septic safe toilet paper and remind no other products can be flushed down the toilet. We will provide safe toilet paper for this reason! There is a thermostat in the living room that you may adjust for heat and A/C. There are also ceiling fans in all the rooms, but the woodstove is not for use. There will be two dock spaces available, one in the boat house and one on the outside of the boathouse. Both are deep, but we encourage you to be aware of rocks and are responsible to know the depth of your own boat. We will have our wake boat on the neighbor’s side of the boathouse dock. Our families and us will have access to use this boat while you are at the cottage, but we will be mindful to stay out of your way. Other than that, we hope you enjoy the piece and quiet you get by escaping from mainland life to slow down on the island. The sunsets are bold and beautiful, the boat traffic is slow and lazy, and the house is open concept for families and friends to enjoy each other’s company! Our neighbors are awesome, feel free to introduce yourself and we ask you please be respectful!

Grocery Shopping

We recommend buying groceries for the week in advance, but if you need some last-minute items there are a couple great options. JoJo’s is a small, local grocery store with a deli, sandwich shop, and bakery. They have a variety of things you might need, including firewood, beer, and wine but the prices are a little more expensive than a chain grocery store. It is located about halfway down Moultonborough Neck Road. You will pass it if parking at the public boat launch on Long Island. To get there from the cottage, you would need to boat to the public dock and then drive up the Neck. The public dock is for drop off and pick up only, so the boat cannot be left docked here while driving to the store.

Another option is the country store at Pier 19 in Nineteen Mile Bay. This is a short boat ride to the public docks in Tuftonboro where you may leave a boat parked and then you can walk across the street to store. There is not a deli or meat section, but they do have an ice cream stand and a menu of prepared foods. They have beer and wine here, but they do not sell firewood.

Restaurants on the Water

If you are looking to eat out the best place to go is the Town Docks in Meredith. They are a boat ride away and have public docks you can park at while eating on the decks over the water. There are a couple restaurants there as well as an ice cream stand!

Explore the Island!

There are more than 4 miles of well-maintained walking trails on the inside of Cow Island that lead to some hidden secrets. About one mile from our cottage, on the northern side of the island there is a beautiful, sandy Tuftonboro Town Beach that faces the picturesque Ossipee Mountains. Begin behind our cottage and follow the valley to the blue trail. There are marked trees that lead to a downward slope ending at the beach. Bring a phone for directions if you need help finding your way home.

Things to do!

The cove between Cow, Little Bear, and Long Island is perfect for watersports at any time of day. You will find great fishing just off our shore around the docks. Braun Bay is located on the other side of Long Island just northwest of Trexler’s Marina. It offers a large sandbar to anchor and enjoy the warm shallow water in the sun. It can get very busy there on the weekends. Wolfeboro, Laconia, and Meredith offer a variety of restaurants and shops that you can boat over and park at the day docks to explore.

Things to remember!

We are not providing linens and ask that you remember your own sheets and towels. We have a king bed, 2 queen beds, a full and a twin that have their own pillows. The tap water is not clean enough for drinking, so we recommend bringing your own filtered water. There is an outdoor firepit if you would like to bring firewood. We put together some items for your packing list that you will want to consider but not limited to: - Bedding sheets & pillowcases - Beach & bath towels - Drinking water - Firewood - Paper towels - Trash bags - Sunscreen
