Visitor Centre and Coffee Shop. Home to an exhibition about the Settle-Carlisle Railway Line. The Visitor Centre is home to an exhibition celebrating the history of the famous Settle-Carlisle railway line. You can take a virtual tour of the line with a state of the art computer model featuring aerial photography and lots of extra information and images. Normally open 7 days a week from 10.30 until 15.30, staffed by volunteers.
The idyllic setting of the coffee shop and visitor centre is like no other. With 360° panoramic views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks and the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct just a short walk away, it’s the perfect stop-off point for visitors and locals in need of a refreshing drink and a bite to eat.

Multi-award-winning Settle Hydro uses an Archimedean screw to generate ‘green’ electricity from the River Ribble as it flows over the adjacent weir. The hydro scheme was built into the mill race which for hundreds of years fed water to the water wheel which powered the machinery at Bridge End Mill.
You can also observe the fish pass which allows migrating salmon and sea trout to pass the weir on their way to spawning beds further up the river. Postcode: BD24 9JS

The Craven Lime Works site is a stunning piece of industrial heritage with a real WOW factor
There are the remains of three types of Lime Kiln on the site; the Hoffman Kiln (definitely the star attraction!), Triple Draw Kilns and a Spencer Kilns.. This industrial scale lime kiln was built in 1873 for the Craven Lime Company. The Hoffmann Continuous kiln was patented in 1858 by its German inventor Friedrich Hoffmann. The version built under licence at Langcliffe had 22 individual burning chambers. Limestone was burned continuously in a circuit around the kiln and it took an average of six weeks for one whole circuit. It has just won a major grant to redevelop the area into workshops, shops and offices.

Catrigg Force is an absolute gem - a magical, mysterious place!
The waterfall is hidden from view in a small secluded copse one mile upstream of Stainforth village.
The main waterfall has a vertical drop of about 6 metres into a lovely step pool.

The Settle-Carlisle Railway Conservation Area is a 78-mile section of mainline railway that is considered to be an area of special architectural and historical interest. In a bid to preserve the character and appearance of this historically important section of Britain's national rail network, it was officially designated a conservation area in 1991.
It is the longest conservation area in the United Kingdom and it covers the entire railway (including all of the associated historic structures) between Hellifield Junction in North Yorkshire and Carlisle Citadel Station in Cumbria.
The 72 mile route from Settle to Carlisle takes you on a journey through the magnificent Yorkshire Dales, over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct before plunging in to the longest tunnel on the line at Blea Moor. Emerging onto the side of Dentdale, the line leaves the Dales at Garsdale and makes it way through the gentle, lush rolling hills of the Eden Valley, with rural villages and market towns before arriving at the great border city of Carlisle.
