This is likely one of the most popular beaches on the island. So if you're looking for "quiet and secluded", probably not the best choice. But is is a local favorite, so if you're looking for fun/friendly aloha vibes, this is it! Pine Trees is a popular surf spot with several beach nooks to set up on. Any given day there will be surfers, locals bbq'ing, music playing, etc. It can be crowded, but always good times.

Pine Trees Surfing Beach
This is likely one of the most popular beaches on the island. So if you're looking for "quiet and secluded", probably not the best choice. But is is a local favorite, so if you're looking for fun/friendly aloha vibes, this is it! Pine Trees is a popular surf spot with several beach nooks to set up on. Any given day there will be surfers, locals bbq'ing, music playing, etc. It can be crowded, but always good times.
Food scene
Lava Lava is our favorite local hang out. This is sort of “the spot” in Waikoloa. It’s not fine dining, but simply just fun times. It’s at the south end of our beach. So to get there you just walk out from the pool down to the sand and walk to the opposite end of the bay where you see all the kayaks and outrigger canoes stored. They always have live music and there’s a huge green lawn there right on the beach with lawn games, kids always running around, and a funky bar that operates out of an old vw bus. They do NOT take reservations, so you sort of have to “game it” right. The ideal Lava Lava evening is to hangout on the lawn for 30-60 minutes and have a cocktail before you get seated for dinner (lawn is open seating - tables are by hostess only). Problem is, if you show up for dinner at6pm, it could be a 2 hour wait for a table. But if you show up at 3:30-4pm, there’s no wait (and you have to sit right away). So the ideal way to do it is to show up at about 4:30. You get a cocktail from the vw bus and put your name in with the hostess out by the parking lot. Usually at 4:30 the wait for a table is 40 minutes. So you have 30-40 minutes to hang out on the lawn, enjoy the “scene”, and wait for your table and you’ll probably get seated around 5:15-5:30pm. All the tables are outdoor and pretty much on the sand!

Costco is probably the best option for groceries on-island. It's right by the airport, so we always stop here after leaving the airport, before driving to the Villa.

The Foodland at Mauna Lani is about a 5-10 minute drive north from Waikoloa. It's better than the local market (Island Gourmet) in Waikoloa. A good option for a grocery run if you don't want to make the drive all the way to Costco.

Our local grocery story - walking distance (or a 2 minute drive) from the Villa. Admittedly, it is not the best grocery store - we like Foodland or Costco for more substantial grocery runs. But for quick food needs and drinks, it's great! It is expensive so make sure to do a majority of your shopping at Costco or Foodland.
