Food scene

Every time we visit, we make reservations for Beano's Cabin. You will take a short drive from the condo to Beaver Creek. Park in the parking garage and catch a snowcat that will pull you in a sleigh you up the mountain (blankets are provided but dress warm, the location has a place for coats and hats). There are no vehicles so this will be the only way to travel. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is something we talk about throughout the year. There is a large stone fireplace and the light sounds of acoustical gutar can be heard through the dining area! A must visit.

The tagline is Crafted with Altitude. The Vail Village Tap Room is a great place to hang out, grab a brew, and people-watch... all right in the heart of it all! One of the owners (Garrett, Derek, Scott, or Brian) will be happy to raise a glass with you.

How can you go wrong with Italian food? Split the Veal Parmigiana and a glass of wine, while the kids devour the spaghetti and meatballs. Great pizza and a really fun place to people watch. There is an outside deck to enjoy when the weather is right!

Located at the foot of Lionshead Village is a Vail icon, Garfinkel's. There is no better place to be on a Sunday. Enjoy a craft beer while having a prime location to watch the slopes.

Great location for live music and pretzels with mustard or cheese. This is located in the heart of Vail and is only a few steps from Gondola One. A quick note on this place, Pepi's is the namesake of the skiing legend that helped found Vail... worth the walk from the condo.

A great local hangout. You will most likely see your ski or snowboard instructor here after they get off work. This is a place for cheap (lower cost) drinks.

Easy to find as it is located in the lobby of the Four Seasons. Please dress appropriately in your mountain ski dress to impress attire, you will thank me. Get yourself a seat about the fire pit as that is one of the best seats in the house to have a view of the mountains and the steam pool just below.

Things to do

Everyone in our family has taken lessons at the Vail Ski School, my first lesson dates back to the mid-1980s! Since then, the kids have taken snowboard lessons... and yes the parents did as well! If you have not yet learned how to board, this is the perfect place to get started! https://www.vail.com/plan-your-trip/ski-and-ride-lessons/search-results.aspx

Rent a snowmobile and take a guided tour (on a groomed trail system) of over 100 miles within the White River National Forest. Well worth the 30-minute drive from the condo! Learn more here: https://www.novaguides.com/colorado-winter-activities/snowmobile-rentals/ From Vail: Get on I-70 and head west Take the Minturn/Leadville exit 171. At the bottom of the ramp turn right onto Highway 24. You will proceed about 15 miles and our driveway will be on the left just past mile marker 159 and marked by Nova Guides signage. City/town information

A great historic neighboring town that is an all-American contrast from the European-inspired Vail area. An old mining and railroad town with a lot to offer visitors. Fun Fact: The Minturn Mile is Vail's legendary (and disclaimer: not exactly legal) backcountry ski run that starts from Vail's back gate and finished in the town of Minturn.

Vail's Annual Torchlight Parade & Fireworks display

Public festivities begin at 6:15 p.m. at the base of Golden Peak. Golden Peak, in our opinion, is the best place to view the on-snow parade. What is it you ask? Skiers and Snowboardriders (from Vail Ski & Snowboard School) travel down Golden Peak while illuminated with glow sticks, creating a trail of light down the mountainside. It is really something to see for young and old alike! When the Torchlight parade is complete, maybe you would want to head to the top of Vail Mountain? It is best described as a nightclub in the mountains. The party goes on until 2 a.m.

Saftey Measures for New Year's Eve

There has been a slight change since we were visiting as teenagers. There is now a town-wide curfew and a Special Event District boundary for Vail Village in place from 10:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 5 a.m. the next day. The public safety measures were first implemented for the July 4th holiday in 2001 to help reduce crowding and underage drinking in Vail Village. Since then, the twice-a-year measures have helped to build upon Vail’s reputation as not only a fun place to be, but also a safe place to be on those holidays. Listen, this is still the place to celebrate New Year's.
