Wrightwood's new Angeles National Forest information center.
The recreation area dates back to 1922, when it was a popular winter playground for LA County Residents. The friendly staff today are happy to share information about local hiking trails, wildlife and history about the area.
They also sell the Adventure Pass here!

Favorite Hikes
At 7,385' in elevation, Inspiration Point rests in a small saddle on Blue Ridge, where Highway 2 crosses from the north side of the mountain, down into the Vincent Gulch side. Inspiration Point is also where the historic Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) crosses Highway 2.
Inspiration Point is obviously known for its amazing views overlooking the San Gabriel River Basin (East Fork). It also offers views of most major mountains in the area including Blue Ridge, Pine Mountain, Mt Baldy, Iron Mountain, Pine Mountain Ridge, and Mt Baden Powell.
If you are up for a small hike, take the short Lightning Ridge Nature Trail, which loops around the top of Inspiration Point and offers even more incredible views. On a clear day you can actually see the island of Catalina from Inspiration Point!

Acorn Trail Description:
The Acorn Trail is located just south of Wrightwood, near the top of Acorn Drive, just past the residential area. This trail starts off nice and easy, crawling up through Acorn Canyon. In the fall, this is one of the best places to view all of the colors the trees have to offer. The Acorn Trail then traverses up the east side of Acorn Canyon on the ridge that separates Acorn Canyon from Heath Canyon. This area offers great views looking down at some of the residential areas of the town of Wrightwood. The trail continues traversing gradually to the top of Blue Ridge, climbing just over 1,700 feet in 2 miles. The end of the trail connects with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). For rewarding views, take the southbound PCT (which runs eastbound here) to the landslide along the face of Wright Mountain. This is one of the greatest view points for looking down at the town of Wrightwood and Swarthout Valley.

From downtown Wrightwood, take Hwy 2 westbound and make a left turn onto Spruce St. just past Wrightwood Elementary School. Travel southbound on Spruce St. to Apple Ave. Make a right on Apple Ave. then continue to Acorn Rd. Turn left on Acorn Rd. and continue southbound until you hit the private section at the end of Acorn Rd. Unfortunately, this area of the road is privately owned and you cannot park there. Park in the residential area just before it and hike up the road, it's not very far to reach the trail head which is located at the top of the road.

Jackson Lake is a small body of water located in a canyon east of Wrightwood and Big Pines. Jackson Lake was formed by the San Andreas fault, and is mostly fed by snow runoff from the mountains. During summer months, many fishermen utilize Jackson Lake, as it is the only real place to go fishing in Wrightwood. During winter months it isn't uncommon to see the top of Jackson Lake frozen over with ice.
Jackson Lake is good for more than just fishing. The area is a hub for campgrounds and picnic areas. Around Jackson Lake you can find Mt Oak Campground, Lake Campground, Peavine Campground, Apple Tree Campground, Mescal Picnic Area, Jackson Lake Picnic Area, and several organizational camps.
Directions to Jackson Lake from Wrightwood:
Take Highway 2 westbound from Wrightwood to Big Pines, at the entrance of Mountain High's West Resort. In Big Pines take the Big Pines Highway westbound (downhill), as opposed to Highway 2 which continues up to Inspiration Point. Continue on Big Pines Highway as it winds down the mountainside. You will pass several campgrounds organizational camps. Jackson Lake will be located on your left, along the side of the highway.
