A quiet historic courtyard in the very center of Amsterdam. It is a 12 century courtyard including a chapel from the Middle Ages. The inhabitants were unmarried women. Because of all the wars there was a surplus of women, who could only keep alive if they united and lived together in small communities such as this one.

What is now known as royal palace was build in 1655 as the new city hall of the city. At that time it was the biggest, non religious, building on the planet. It was not build by a king but the money was raised by the ordinary people of the city of Amsterdam. It was build by the people and for the people! It was claimed as a palace by Louis Napoleon at the beginning of the nineteenth century but the grandeur of the mighty Dutch Republic of the seventeenth century is still there! It is not always open to visitors, so check the website and make a reservation. You can get an audiotour at the entrance.

In the oldest part of Amsterdam you'll find the Nieuwmarkt. Close to the Red Light District and in Amsterdams Chinatown. Notice that street names are also written in Chinese here. There is a small market and many cafés and restaurants here. The square is dominated by "De Waag" originally a old city gate. In the anatomical theater inside the building Rembrandt painted his famous Anatomical lesson of Prof Tulp. The theater is still there. On the market square itself there were executions by Guillotine in the Napoleonic times.

This neighborhood is from 1612 and was for working-class people. It has always been a very dynamic area, and it still is. Walk down the small streets, Don't forget to shop on the Haarlemmerdijk and the Haarlemmerstraat. Or see the little shops and restaurants in "De negen straatjes". Look at the houses and the "Brouwersgracht" Visit café Lowietje, for the real Jordaan atmosphere. You will find a great number of restaurants in this area. From a little more expensive (Toscanini, Daalder) to cheap bites. Go check out the restaurants around the Noorderkerk too. And every Monday there is market on the Noordermarkt.

When we do not use it for brewing, we conduct tours in our brewery at the Funenkade. We tell you about the fascinating history of our brewery and explain the role of water, malt, hops and yeast within the brewing process. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, an English language tour starts at 3.30pm, followed by a Dutch one at 4pm. Tickets are only available at the bar on the day itself, booking in advance is not possible. The tour takes about 20 minutes and costs €7,00 per person, which includes a beer of choice. With a limited number of twenty places, tickets tend to be sold out fast, so be quick to grab some if you are keen to join.

Introducing traditional Focaccia Genovese, known locally as fügassa. Unless you’ve been to Liguria, Italy, you may have never had focaccia like this before. Did you know there are regional differences in true Italian focacce? Focaccia Genovese is thinner than other regional focacce, with a light crunch on the outside and a soft, delicate inside. High quality olive oil, sea salt and specially ground flours are responsible for this light contrast between the crust and the almost cake-like crumb. In the morning the Genovese locals enjoy their focaccia dipped in a cappuccino (as the French would with a croissant) although they wouldn't say no to a piece - or two - at any point of the day. We can't wait to share this tradition with you soon! https://www.facebook.com/focacceriaamsterdamovertoom/

On walking distance of the Museumplein! The trusted 'steak frites' eatery of Wilmar te Winkel remains a delightful place. The entrecôte is thinly sliced, perfectly cooked to medium-rare, and particularly flavorful. It is served with a green herb sauce in which tarragon is clearly present. It's nice that an extra portion, called a 'repasse,' is offered for both the meat and the fries. An alternative main course is pan-fried sole with ravigote sauce. For dessert, there is a light and creamy chocolate mousse.

If possible buy your ticket online and select date & time.

Always check the website of an attraction to see when you can book a ticket and at what date and time you can visit. For the Anne Frank House, please buy your tickets many weeks ahead because that's so busy. More than four weeks before your visit is necessary to be on the safe side. ALWAYS check in advance the website of restaurants to see opening hours and, if needed make a reservation before you go.
