Sightseeing
These are the nearest things to see surrounding us, but if you are willing to travel a bit, you can explore Elliott Knob, McAfee Knob, Crab Tree Falls, Warm and Hot Springs, and some guests have headed out as far as New River Gorge National Park over in West Virginia.
Braley Pond is three miles away, with a light half mile trail around the water, (licensed) trout fishing at the stocked pond, and, apparently, a national reputation for being haunted. Look up Bald Ridge Trail for a 7.4 mile out and back from this location.

Elkhorn Lake is a 25 minute drive into the Forest Road (entry just past Braley Pond), utilized for fishing and kayaking. No swimming.

Lake Douthat is a great family recreation area with many trails, a fishing area, a sandy family swim bay, kayak/SUP rental, and a snack shack. It’s a beautiful hour drive through neighboring Bath county and makes for a lovely day trip.

Lake Moomaw is a quiet and stunning lake, just a 45 minute backcountry drive away in Bath county. Great little beach to swim. Bring your blow up paddleboards or kayaks if you have them. Pack a picnic and bring water. Nearest restaurants are a ways off in Warm Springs. We LOVE this place!

On the way into the cabin from DC, if you exit toward Bridgewater, we highly recommend a stop at Smiley’s Ice Cream at Mount Crawford Creamery and dairy farm, and at the Overlook Produce stand. From there you are about a 45 minute drive on beautiful country roads to the cabin.

the Jefferson Pools
The historic Warm Springs Jefferson Pools are opened after major renovations. A 45 minute drive from the cabin, reservations are needed.

Pack in and Pack out
Pack a cooler as the closest grocery store is a 28 minute drive (Giant, Kroger, WalMart) in Staunton. The Mountain View General Store gas station is 8 minutes away and has some basics, but you're best off coming prepared.
There's no trash service in the neighborhood either, and with eager bears year round, all guests are to kindly pack out their own trash at departure. Even a single empty chip bag or soda can has drawn nature's fat furry friends to the bins.
