Lesser known local favorite. If you are looking for REAL authentic Mexican place, this is the absolute real deal like you would expect to find in a Mexican neighborhood in the US somewhere. Great tacos and burritos.

My favorite restaurant in Juneau. It’s Asian Mexican fusion. Try the taco plate sampler… and they have these fruity vinegar fermented drinks that are extremely good, and alcohol can be added.

This place seems like Disneyland when you look at the walls, but this is the kind of place that Disneyland copied to look authentic (in my humble opinion without doing any research) 😁 it’s a real bar and it’s very old and historic, read about the pistol hanging on the wall above the bartender. Wild West stuff. FULL of tourists when there’s a cruise ship in town. But when that’s happening you can still usually get a seat and it’s fun cuz there’s a profane piano player. Good bar food and bar and plenty of things on the walls to entertain your eyes. You could probably spit on the floor and no one would notice.

Great expensive king crab and related crab dishes and pretty much nothing else except beer and soda. Cooked right there.

Healthy wonderful breakfast place, modern food… the other fantastic breakfast option besides Auke Bay Cafe. Cannot go wrong. Across the street from a bowling alley and you can walk around the cruise ship boardwalk too.

One of three convenience stores of the same name in Juneau, they make their own donuts and people rave about them. You can get the donuts at any of the locations, but this location has the most because they are made here. Convenience store right next to the dump! Look for the bald eagles scrounging around the dump!

Mix of industrial and residential with the Alaskan brewery and the big stores, a prison…
Go to sandy beach. Fun beach that has a historic gold mine that you can see decomposing in the trees where there previously was a very long lived and successful mining town that burned down in the 1920s. There’s a diner and a bar walkable from the beach, both decent.
Locals have parties here, and you can book an open air cabin through the city if you want to have your own party here. People play volleyball and swim. Very safe beach for kids. And an amazing totem pole and a strange building that stands out of the ocean!! Read about it! Very interesting stuff.

Go to sandy beach. Fun beach that has a historic gold mine that you can see decomposing in the trees where there previously was a very long lived and successful mining town that burned down in the 1920s. There’s a diner and a bar walkable from the beach, both decent.

This place has a lake with a small waterfall that empties into the ocean, when tides are extra high the waterfall sometimes flows in reverse making the lake water unique for local biology. Great place for blueberry picking. You can also see salmon and black bears here.

During summer months this place is amazing, this is a man made salmon ladder that releases millions of salmon into the ocean every year. They give tours and there’s a small aquarium inside. But even if it’s closed, it’s still amazing when rhe salmon are here because you can see them in a underwater window and see the crowded final holding pen. Fish are butchered for various foods.

One of the best swimming pool places I’ve been to, and it’s city run so it’s clean and cheap. Great huge kiddy pool with water slides and water sculptures plus a real big cold pool with two diving boards. Also has good family lockers as well as traditional male and female locker rooms. Fantastic views of the mountains and glacier from the pool, fun to go during winter time and scoff at the freezing temps outside from the hot tub. Or sauna.

Otherwise known as Brotherhood Trail. Beautiful views of the river, goes through along the river into forest and ends up at the Fieldhouse, an indoor turf field. You can cross a pedestrian bridge here and then walk the trail on the other side of the river and return to my house. Walkable from my house. Just walk up Meadow Ln towards Egan and Safeway, then go under the bridge and you’re on the trail.

Very challenging hike, but the easiest hike where you can actually touch the glacier and explore an ice cave. Totally beautiful, some parts are like walking on the moon. Full day kinda hike. Come to me for advice if you want to do this one!

There’s a trail that leads to a floating platform where locals go to swim. The lake is warmer than the glacial lakes because it isn’t fed by the glacier. Beautiful views.
