Food scene

This lovely country pub is only 250m from the entrance to the site and serves up a great range of pub food. It also has a fantastic children's play area. We can't recommend it strongly enough as being super-convenient for our guests!

This is not just a cafe. They serve amazing home cooked food, including superb breakfasts, with great vegetarian options. It's particularly good for cyclists, as it's on the Yarmouth to Freshwater cycle track and also for dog owners, as dogs are welcome!

A great little take-away, tucked away on the High Street in Yarmouth. Excellent crispy battered fish and chips! Call your order in and collect, as Yarmouth is only 2 miles away.

Sightseeing

If you leave the campsite, crossing the road to Hamstead Road and taking the footpath, there is a lovely circular walk, which will take you to the headland and loops back through to the Horse & Groom pub. Be aware it can get quite wet outside of dry summers, so wear stout footwear!

The Needles is a stunning sight and an absolute must see if you've not been to the Island before. You can catch the bus directly from outside the campsite and in the summer there is the Needles Breezer, which is one of the UK's most scenic bus rides, with an open top bus running along the side of the cliff to the Old Battery. There are National Trust tea rooms at the Old Battery and don't forget to walk to the south side, for a seldom seen view of the Needles and also to see the Black Knight Rocket test site ruins!

Compton beach is on the South West side of the Island, which is the wild side. A beautiful sandy beach, great for a day out for the family, as there is normally an ice cream van in the car park and there are toilets, too. It's also a favourite local spot for surfers. Don't forget to turn left at the bottom of the steps and walk up to the headland to spot the dinosaur footprints on the beach!
