Enjoyed a red wine flight and cobb salad and hubby had the chicken BLT. The food was excellent amd the ambiance perfect for an afternoon by the river. The entire team came by to check on us numerous times and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Spent a few hours in the rocking chairs eating and drinking regional wine. Highly recommend the Taft Meritage is you like full body dry reds."

At some point in South Boston Speedway’s 65-year history virtually all of NASCAR’s top-tier national series and regional touring series and other racing series including the ARCA Menards Series stock cars series, USAC sprint cars and the AMA motorcycle racing series have visited South Boston Speedway, bringing the top stars of the sport to the Halifax County, Virginia oval.
Dale Earnhardt Sr., Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton and Ward Burton, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Terry Labonte, Geoff Bodine, Bobby Allison, Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader and Benny Parsons are among the many past and present stars that have competed at South Boston Speedway over the years. Parsons scored his first career NASCAR Grand National (NASCAR Cup Series) win at South Boston Speedway when the track hosted its last NASCAR Grand National (NASCAR Cup Series) race in 1971.

Sightseeing
In 2008 the relocation and rehabilitation of the former Norfolk – Western depot was completed. The depot, a brick masonry structure, was originally built in 1915 and is the only standing railroad station in Nottoway County. In order to save the depot, it had to be moved from its original site to a site owned by the Town. Prior to the Civil War, the South Side Railroad crossed the Richmond and Danville Railroad at Burke Station. the rail line west of Burkeville to Farmville has been abandoned, but Burkeville is still a railroad junction with an interchange between the Norfolk Southern and Buckingham Branch railroads.
