This is one of our favorite local restaurants located about 8 minutes away in Cornerstone off of Greenview Drive. Their food is absolutely delicious but get there early...there is usually a wait. Moderately priced and great atmosphere with plenty of outside seating.

This is an oldie but goodie. This is a locally owned restaurant and their food selection is vast...the salmon and crab cakes are very good. My husband likes their cheesy chicken. They are located near the mall.

Located in historic downtown, this locally owned restaurant serves delicious calamari and crab dip. All of their pizzas are speciality pizzas and are very good. Any of their pizzas can be made gluten free. They have a small outside eating area as well.

Bootleggers is a great locally owned restaurant situated in downtown and the whole restaurant can be open air as well as a few tables outside with a view of the mountains. The service is typically a bit slow but it is well worth the wait. Their fries and burgers are special.

This is more of an upscale rooftop restaurant called Skyline
which overlooks the city of Lynchburg. Their menu is limited but everything is prepared beautifully. It’s a nice place to go on a date.

If you are headed downtown...this locally owned ice cream shop is a must visit. The menu is extensive and includes a special menu item called rolled ice cream...The Campfire is my favorite. Great owners and a lot of fun.

Downtown Lynchburg VA is a fun and safe place to go...lots of great eats, walking trails along the James River, and green space to sit and have a picnic. They often host concerts and every Saturday they have their local Farmers Market. You can also rent bikes or kayaks.

Roanoke is known as the star city. The view from the star pictured is incredible. There is also a zoo called the Mill Mtn Zoo and there is a science center in downtown Roanoke.

Sightseeing
The Peaks of Otter is about a 40 minute drive but well worth it. There is a good restaurant (the service is typically very slow but their wings are worth the wait). There is a paved walking path as well as a pond and the views of Sharp Top are stunning. If you are feeling adventurous, I recommend the hike to the top of Sharp Top..it does not disappoint. The beginning of the hike is a pretty good incline, and is fairly easy until you reach close to the top where you have to navigate a lot of steps. When you get to the top you will want to take a bunch of pictures. Rest awhile or have a picnic lunch and than give yourself plenty of time to head back down as it is a bit hard on the knees coming back down. It is a fun activity for the whole family but would say that the hike is not suitable for small children unless you can throw them in a back pack.

A beautiful area along the parkway and fun for the whole family. There are several worthwhile hiking spots there but they do charge money to hike along the Natural Bridge. There is a gift shop and a small zoo also.

Drive along in your vehicle, roll down your windows and feed a bunch of large animals..most kids will love it. There is a small gift shop there as well. It’s a lot of fun.

A fun place to have a picnic or kick a ball around. They have lots of green space and bathrooms. There is a paved walking path which connects to the BlackWater Creek Trail. There is also a disc golf course and tennis courts for your use.

It is a paved walking area although there are short hiking trails that sprout off to give you a closer view of the water. You can also rent bikes or roller blade on this trail. You can walk for miles all the way into Amherst County from this trail.
The views from here are incredible. Looking for a wintery day activity any time of the year...head to Snowflex located up the mountain from Liberty University. Tubing, snowboarding and skiing. Fun for the whole family. They have a nice lodge to relax in.

I would recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway as there are many incredible hiking opportunities and some of them are part of the Appalachian Trail.
