Bethel Spring Nature Preserve is a 360-acre property on Keel Mountain with 200 acres open for outdoor recreation. The preserve currently offers hikers a little under two miles of free trails to explore from dawn to dusk daily, including upland forest, working farmland, historic sites, an environmentally-significant spring and creek, as well as one of Madison County’s largest waterfalls.

Bethel Spring Nature Preserve is a 360-acre property on Keel Mountain with 200 acres open for outdoor recreation. The preserve currently offers hikers a little under two miles of free trails to explore from dawn to dusk daily, including upland forest, working farmland, historic sites, an environmentally-significant spring and creek, as well as one of Madison County’s largest waterfalls.
Blevins Gap Nature Preserve is a 1086-acre natural oasis in South Huntsville minutes from residential and commercial hot spots. The preserve is divided into two sections with trails to the north and south of Cecil Ashburn Drive. The main Blevins Gap Trailhead provides access to around 8 miles of woodland hiking trails on the 727 acre portion south of Cecil Ashburn and features Huntsville’s best spot to enjoy spectacular valley views. Primary access for the 267 acres north of Cecil Ashburn is Fanning Trailhead (located behind Southeast Church of the Nazarene). This portion of the preserve features a rocky incline with wet-weather waterfalls and approximately 4.5 miles of trails. Trails are free and open dawn to dusk daily.

Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve is a 472-acre property located just to the east of Huntsville on HWY 72. A little over 3 miles of trails are ready to explore. Like all of our public preserves, Chapman Mountain is open dawn to dusk and access is free. These trails are not just for hiking though. Mountain bikers and horseback riders are also welcome and an 18-hole disc golf course is now open to play.

This 935-acre preserve located in North Huntsville, offers approximately 12 miles of trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding. The trail system can be accessed directly from Spragins Hollow Trailhead or take a short stroll down The City of Huntsville’s Wade Mountain Greenway (a paved walking path) to access the hiking trails from Pulaski Pike Trailhead. A pavilion provides a shady spot to gather along the Greenway.

The Stone Cut Trail has a “bypass”. Be sure you go on the trail marked “Stone Cut Trail” and not the bypass. On the Stone Cut trail, you weave in and out of beautiful rocks towering over you. To get back, you can turn around and head back the way you came, or you can follow Mountain Mist back to the Broken Road.
