As you may have guessed by the name there are several caves along the coastline, which you can explore. But there’s more to this beach. It's a great spot to spend the day with the kids.
The beach is patrolled. There's a cafe right next to it, as well as picnic tables and toilets. Kids enjoy sliding the small sand dunes on their boogie boards. Exploring caves is a great addition to the day. And the surrounds are stunning.
Make sure you time your visit with the tides – the caves can only be accessed at low tide. They're at the southern end near the Surf Life Saving Club.

Popular for swimming, surfing and fishing, the beach also features an iconic former coal-loading jetty, evidence of the area's mining history and a popular photography spot.
Taking its name from the ship which ran aground here in 1867, Catherine Hill Bay is a small village nestled in the hinterland just south of Swansea. A former coal-mining town, its 19th-century miners' cottages mark the oldest continuous settlement in the City of Lake Macquarie.
The resulting scenery is astoundingly beautiful; Catherine Hill Bay is at once home to a long, beautiful stretch of sand, surrounded by verdant hills and bushland, and dotted with rusted iron machinery and wildflowers. This sleepy town is home to barely 500 permanent residents, yet its natural attractions are worthy of a much busier holiday destination.
You’ll find a number of lookouts and viewing platforms overlooking Catherine HIll Bay Beach, and views from the nearby picnic area at Crangan Bay reach to the tall chimneys of Eraring Power Station, as well as the mountains just beyond.

Blacksmiths Beach is a patrolled beach at the southern end of a sandy nine mile stretch of coastline. It's popular with families, and is known as a good beach for swimming. The breakwall, which acts as the border between the beach itself and the Swansea Channel is also popular with walkers, cyclists and anglers. Blacksmiths Beach is home to the Swansea Belmont Surf Lifesaving Club.
Grannies Pool is also close by. It is a shallow tidal pool perfect for the little ones.

Great waterside pub with a fantastic outdoor area that includes a deck to look over the ocean views and a grassed area with tables and kids play equipment. Great food and comprehensive range of beers, wine and cocktails. Something for everyone here.

The food is good here and it's easy walk from the house too. Sitting up on the balcony upstairs is a great way to take in the bridge and water whist you eat or have a beverage, but you might want to take a jumper if it is windy.

This is a really lovely spot to stop and relax away an afternoon with good company, good food and a great view.
It would be worth reserving a table if you want to sit undercover on the outdoor deck.
We have only been once, but ken to go back.
