Cherokee Lake The most beautiful lake in Tennessee. This beautiful lake is known for wonderful bass fishing, clear blue water, and the beautiful setting in the Tennessee hillsides. You will find over 28,000 surface acres surrounded by 400 miles of shoreline. Named in honor of the tribe of Native Americans known as the Cherokee, Cherokee Lake is a reservoir of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). At one time, the great warpath of the Cherokee Indians crossed the area that is now the lake basin. From August 1940 to December 1941 Cherokee Dam was constructed. The dam is on the Holston River, about 52 miles upstream from the area where the French Broad and Holston rivers converge to create the Tennessee River.

Downtown Morristown is full of great eats, and great shopping! About Historic Downtown Morristown Morristown is a certified Main Street Community that has successfully preserved its history and many of the original buildings. The City’s downtown “grew up” adjacent to a waterway and two railroad depots, resulting in a commercial district that gently slopes down towards the river. As with many downtowns, the businesses have changed over time. Today’s downtown is an interesting mix of shopping, restaurants, and architectural elements including the SkyMart, an overhead sidewalk that provides street entry to the upper story shops and provides a canopy for the lower walkways. A stroll through Morristown’s downtown will take you past the Museum on Main, a charming pocket park, art studios, and the Jersey Girl Diner rated one of the top 10 diners in Tennessee. Events are held year-round but don’t miss the farmer’s market or the summer Music on the Green music series.
