Food scene

Apart from the Wissegiggl restaurant for a sit-down meal, a small café - Il Giardino - has recently opened down in the village of Langhecke where you can get light snacks and refreshments on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
You'll find a varied menu of very tasty food here. The portions are generous and the prices fair. The spacious restaurant is ideal both for an intimate couple's dinner as well as for larger groups. It's a popular stop for hikers and cyclists too.

City/town information

Take a stroll across the bridge in Runkel and up to the medieval castle which is open for individual or guided tours. Enjoy the river Lahn flowing over the weir and watch the canoeists gliding by. On your return, don't miss out on a delicious ice cream at Eiscafé Mancuso!

The historic town of Wetzlar should be on your route for a day trip to the north-east of Langhecke. The old part of town is wonderful to wander round, as long as you don't mind cobbled streets and short, steep climbs!

Neighborhoods

In the middle of a forest, Langhecke has a long history of slate production, although there are hardly any signs of that left now. Some of the houses in the village formerly had an industrial function, like the one you see out of the window across the valley. We are just 3km from the river Lahn where you can walk or cycle beside or even canoe on the river. If you like sightseeing, attractive towns such as Kronberg, Limburg, Wetzlar, Bad Nauheim and Marburg are an easy drive away.

Sightseeing

The Hessenpark is well worth a visit - allow two or three hours, maybe more! It is a collection of faithfully rebuilt houses in various old-fashioned styles, but with the added attraction that they are used to demonstrate older, sometimes almost forgotten skills such as leatherwork, weaving, basketmaking, baking and ironwork. Who knows, it may just inspire your new hobby!
