Garger HaZahav – Hummus for Hipsters Garger HaZahav is a small Hummus restaurant which operates in the Levinski market and offers a wide variety of Hummus plates, falafel and salads. The hummus is very trendy, especially in peak time which is usually at lunch, so you might have to wait a few minutes in order to get a table, but the service is very kind and you will always get the best treatment from the waitresses. Prices are average for Hummus plate and they also have a lunch combo of salad plus hummus plus drink in affordable prices.

Pizza Lila quickly became Tel Aviv’s favourite pizza joint. The pizza is thin and the crust is so fluffy and so bubbly, it really is beautiful. They offer interesting topping combos like the Pizza Bianca with mushrooms, zucchini, and pesto, but with such a great pizza you’re always safe with a classic Margherita topped with a few basil leaves . Be sure to save space for desert – their chocolate pie with sea salt is incredible.

Café Levinsky 41 is certainly a hidden gem. Here you can get the usual cafe servings of tea and coffee, but what is really special about this place are the sodas, all of which are made from scratch. You explain what flavor you want — sweet or bitter — and even what kind of fruit you like, and the people at Café Levinsky 41 will take carbonated water, locally grown herbs and greens and homemade fruit syrups and create the perfect concoction for you.

Chef Avivit Priel Avichai (formerly of Tapeo) and her partner Limor Lami opened Ouzeria less than ten years ago to much critical acclaim. Known as a modern "hamara", a meeting place to drink, play and discuss life, Ouzeria is the classic Florentin neighborhood joint. For those who are fond of fish delicacies, Lupa Fish Deli is the place to visit. This traditional delicatessen is located inconspicuously on the corner of a side street. For decades, Lupo has conquered the realm of homemade fish, preparing botargo (a cured fish roe, typically from tuna), bonito (popularly eaten grilled, pickled, or backed), and soused herring (with a mild marinade). Whilst at Lupo, be sure to pick up some smoked salmon and okra salad as well!

The Yom Tov Delicatessen at the Shuk Lewinsky is not even from elsewhere in Israel - it’s from Istanbul. Back in 1967, the patriarch of the Yom Tov family, moved to Israel from Turkey, bringing with him a range of local flavors and family recipes. The store he opened then is now run by Itan and Yomi who continue grandfather’s culinary traditions in their preparation of home cooked foods. The most Turkish of the foods on sale here is the sweet sesame confection called halva. But rounding out the Middle Eastern love for colorful and fresh salads are a range of spiced vegetable salads (beet, carrot, tabouleh, and more), boutique cheeses and homemade jams which are based on secret family recipe.

Pimpinella, other than being a really fun word to say, is the plant that anise comes from. Anise is the herb in several Mediterranean spirits, including arak and ouzo. So it’s no wonder that a bar named Pimpinella has some of the best arak/ouzo cocktails in Tel Aviv. Located in Shuk Levinsky, don’t let this bar’s small size fool you—they have a huge selection of alcohol and scrumptious small plates to snack on, mainly consisting of fresh seafood. This is a great place to stop by if you’re in Florentin, to eat and drink in the laid-back Mediterranean vibes.

Where else can you find a bar, cafe, book and record store, and live music venue all in one? Only at Uganda, where alcohol meets great food and culture. Located at the very start of Florentin just steps from Rothschild Boulevard, there is always something funky happening at Uganda, such as a comic book sale, an experimental band playing or an art exhibition. This sweet mezcal bar has been serving the hipster neighborhood of Florentin for years. It started as a small neighbourhood bar which then began to receive so much love that the owners eventually had to take over the next door shop to expand the much loved establishment. Mezcal has stood the test of time. The tacos are sensational and wash down wonderfully with the fully stocked variety of tequilas. From tequila tastings to delicious and authentic enchiladas, Mezcal offers a magical meal for all who come and embrace the Mexican cuisine.

As the very first street built in the city, Rothschild Boulevard occupies a central place in the history of Tel Aviv and is home to numerous architectural landmarks. Start at the southern end, on the corner of Herzl Street, to find Tel Aviv’s first coffee kiosk built in 1910 (now operated by Espresso Bar). Head northwards, and admire Levin (or Heseg) House at number 46, a beautiful building with a tumultuous history built in the 1920s in the Eclectic Style. Then check out Engel House, at number 84, which is among the most important Bauhaus landmarks in Tel Aviv. Why? It was the first to be built on stilts – now a hallmark of many Bauhaus buildings in the city and a great example of the unique adaptations made by the design school’s graduates here. After exploring by day, experience a different side of Rothschild Boulevard on a guided pub crawl, where you’ll get to enjoy the nightlife, meet other travellers and residents and enjoy drinks along the way.

The Eretz Israel Museum (Land of Israel Museum) occupies a complex of buildings that also takes in the Tell Qasile archaeological site. The complex includes a planetarium as well as pavilions with displays on ceramics, glass, the history of writing, science, ethnography, and folklore. In the center of the complex is Tell Qasile where Israeli archaeologists have identified 12 settlement levels dating back to the 12th century BC. Stratum XII and Stratum XI are attributed to the Philistines, while Stratum X dates from the 10th century when the kings of Israel had a port here. Later strata show that the site was still occupied during the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine eras and was only finally abandoned in favor of nearby Jaffa during the Islamic period. Upon David Ben-Gurion’s death, he requested his house to become a public institution for reading, study, and research. His extensive library houses thousands of books from all genres: philosophy, history, language, psychology, and more. All the items belonging to Paula and David Ben-Gurion are in the house, in addition to exhibits added when the house opened to the public in 1974. Ben-Gurion House invites visitors to experience a personal and unmediated meeting with Ben-Gurion's memory. Tours and other educational activities are offered.
