Reeder's Alley is the oldest part of the city still standing, with red brick buildings, a cobbled street and log cabins. It was built in the 1870s, and named after Louis Reeder, who first started using stone and masonry, thinking this would reduce the number of fires in the city. His red brick tenement buildings remain standing to this day. The Helena Visitor Center, is located here as well, and can give you further ideas on things to see and do around town.

Hiking

This is a great place to hike with many trails. But if you go to Reeder's Village (not Reeder's Alley) you can get on the main set of trails and when you get to the top it is an amazing view of the city.

The Gates of the Mountains is what Lewis and Clark saw as they were coming down the Missouri River and it is just as beautiful now as then. You can often see wildlife you don't see in other places. The boat tours can be booked at gatesofthemountains.com.
