One of our favorite restaurants in downtown Staunton, you will never get a bad meal! We LOVE the beef ribs, but they also have an incredible Sunday brunch. The building used to be the local flour mill, and Kara's grandmother used to take wheat there when she was a girl.

This is one of our favorite places to eat! We love the beef (brisket) burrito or the black bean and sweet potato burrito bowl. The food is delicious! They have a cute patio but they also have a great pre-Covid set up for to-go ordering. We often order to go and take our food to a brewery or hike.

Their restaurant was destroyed in a flood a few years ago, and they currently serve out of their food truck in front of their new location while they prepare the building to open. There are some picnic tables where you can eat, but we often will order ahead and pick up pupusas on our way to a brewery, winery, or trio somewhere. We love bean and cheese pupusas and fried yuca!

A wonderful local winery, the tasting room is in downtown Staunton while the grapes are further away. It's close to everything downtown, the wine is lovely, and they have a nice space upstairs to gather, enjoy wine, and look at the art.

Magdalena’s bake shop is open Friday-Sunday, and her cakes/desserts are delicious! She also frequently serves out of a food truck at the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. My favorite is the dulce de leche cheesecake!

If you like theater, the Blackfriars is not to be missed! This is the world's only recreation of Shakespeare's indoor theater, and people come from all over the world to attend. The performance is incredible, and whether you like or understand Shakespeare, you will enjoy the show!

This is the best dog park ever! It is actually called a "dog exercise area." It is huge, and it's our dog's favorite place on earth. There are no fences, so be mindful if you dog runs away. There is a large open space as well as a wooded space where there is a frisbee golf course. In addition to dogs, many people walk and run at this park.

This historic 1850's tunnel cuts through the mountain. It takes about 30 minutes to walk through in one direction and you need a flashlight or headlamp because it is quite dark. Many people walk or ride bikes, and while there is parking on both sides, the Waynesboro side (western entrance) has a larger parking lot.

You can access the Appalachian Trail or hike on one of the many trails off of the Parkway. It's also lovely to ride bikes or motorcycles. There are a number of Scenic Overlooks, and we like to take a picnic dinner and watch the sunset.
The Natural Bridge is about 40 minutes from the Casita, and it is a wonderful day trip. The bridge itself is a National and Virginia Historic Landmark and a must see. There is also a zoo and a "Safari Park" in Natural Bridge, which many children enjoy.

This is Kara’s favorite trail, and it was Summitt’s first hike! The trail follows water, and you have to cross over the stream several times. There is a swimming hole, or you can keep hiking up to a second swimming spot. No cell phone service so make sure you take directions with you!

Latitudes is a colorful, downtown shop that sells fair trade items of all kinds, include clothing, household items, jewelry, and gifts of all kinds. The owners and staff are lovely, wonderful people. Several items in our tiny house comes from this shop!

We adore the store owners, who also own a wedding planning and flower business. The mercantile has cute gifts and home items, as well as a fresh flower bar where you can pick out your flowers (or ask Sara to put them together for you; she is amazing at this!) This store is in Waynesboro.
