Upscale neighborhood to the west of Center Havana. This was the pre-revolution luxury area and it still presents as an elegant, sophisticated enclave of well-maintained mansions and landscaped gardens. It's full of amazing restaurants, museums and interesting attractions, such as the iconic National Hotel.

Playa is the northernmost municipality in Havana. This area also covers Quinta Avenida, which is known for its embassies. Near the western end of the Playa you can see the Hemingway Marina, where Ernest Hemingway used to keep his fishing boat. On the eastern border of Playa you can visit the Metropolitan Park and Almendares Park, both of which border the Almendares River.

This sleepy boat dock and its surrounding cluster of houses on the eastern side of Havana harbor is overlooked by several popular city sights: a 20m-tall statue of Christ and the city’s two largest forts. There’s the distinctive Castillo del Morro with its sentinel lighthouse, and the strapping Cabaña, the largest Spanish fort in the Americas. Although geographically separated from Habana Vieja, the forts are included in its prestigious Unesco listing. Exploring their museums, ramparts, and various nooks and crannies could fill half a day.
