Neighbourhoods

Lots Road Conservation Area is a haven in Chelsea, full of period residential properties and smaller creative companies. There are two glorious pubs – The Chelsea Ram (a few doors away) and Lots Road on Lots Road. There’s also a jazz club, 606, on Lots Road. The Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour (a few minutes away) is home to the best interior design brands in the world. The King’s Road, and River Thames are both a few minutes walk away. The King’s Road is worth a trip to London in itself. From top shopping to world class art at the Saatchi Gallery and award winning plays at The Royal Court Theatre, you’ll find days of entertainment here. If you’re a culture fan, the museums in South Kensington are a short bus ride away (get the 49 or 345 from Beaufort Street). There’s an excellent fine food market (street food, Chelsea style) at Duke of York Square every Saturday, 10am – 4pm. The riverside walk, along Cheyne Walk, has many spectacular and historic houses which have housed famous people for centuries - from James Abbott McNeill Whistler to the Rolling Stones. The history is varied and plentiful. Westfield Park is a park with a children’s play area minutes from our home (walk to the Chelsea Ram then walk north up Uverdale Road). Battersea Park, with multiple playgrounds, a Go Ape and a zoo, is less than a mile away. Stamford Bridge, the ground of Chelsea Football Club, is a ten minute walk away.

Known as Nappy Valley, the area centred by Northcote Road in Battersea is more like an affluent (though very busy) village. It has excellent shops, places to eat, and in line with being called Nappy Valley, parks for kids. Clapham Junction is the closest train station.

Marylebone High Street is one of the roads in London that is a village in a street. It has boutique shops and nice places to eat. It's a destination in itself. The closest tubes are Bond Street and Regent's Park.

A lot of incredible art spanning 700 years. As it's free entry you don't need a lot of time. I like to go there for hours. Equally, I like to use a spare 10 minutes to enjoy my favourite painting then leave.

An incredibly child friendly modern art gallery. The Turbine Hall, with its super long ramp, is especially great for kids as it’s enormous. Get the Uber boat from Chelsea Harbour / Battersea Power Station for a really fun day out.

One of my favourite things in the world is choral evensong at St Paul's. Regardless of your religion (or not), the choir's singing matches the building for beauty. It's on at 5pm Monday - Saturday, and 3pm Sunday. Make sure you tell the people at the front you're there for the service and they won't charge you the entry fee. And sit as close to the altar as possible. You can make sure it’s choral evensong (where the choir sings the service) here: https://www.stpauls.co.uk/whats-on

Battersea Park houses an enormous amount of entertainment. There's a Go Ape, a children's zoo, a cafe, a sports centre, and multiple kids’ play parks, besides the fresh open space, grass and trees. It is just south of the river so there's also an excellent river walk at the north end of the park.

A brilliant, child friendly, interactive museum. Slightly off the beaten track. Free entry and a lovely cafe. It’s just over a mile away from the flat and it’s a lovely walk, mostly along the river. Or you can get the 170 bus from the top of Battersea Bridge. Get off at the National Army Museum bus stop.

Walking down Bond Street (which becomes Old Bond Street half way down) is like stepping into a different world (of massive privilege). Go on a sunny day and walk slowly to give yourself maximum window shopping time. The Burlington Arcade (off Piccadilly, parallel with Old Bond Street) is also worth a slow walk through. Bond Street and Green Park are the closest tube stations.

The Library bar at The Lanesborough is a way to taste luxury London without being a millionaire. While drinks are expensive, they're a lot cheaper than a room in this hotel, which is one of London's finest, and you still get to soak up the atmosphere.

周邊交通資訊

Walk as much as possible

The best way to get to know London is to walk. You're the master of your own time, can't get stuck in delays, can't end up crammed next to someone on a bus or tube. Plus, you get to appreciate the incredible architecture across London, and how areas change from one street to the next.
親子出遊

Grocery delivery apps

If the kids are in bed but you need some groceries, use the grocery delivery apps such as Getir. The choice is limited but the service is phenomenal. They can deliver groceries to your door in twenty minutes. They're a game changer if you have young kids.

Use the Uber boat

Uber has sponsored the river boat that is a form of public transport - you can use an Oyster card / contactless payment card. It's more expensive than the tube but not by a lot, considering how much more enjoyable it is. Travelling by boat down the Thames is an absolute joy as you travel past some of London's biggest landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament. It's especially beautiful on a sunny day. There's a stop at Chelsea Harbour: https://goo.gl/maps/xQ23tNSPn7fpxyu97 The timetable is here: https://www.thamesclippers.com/plan-your-journey/timetable

Use Santander Cycles

If you're steady on a bicycle, Santander Cycles are an excellent way to get around London. There are docks all over the city. It's £2 to get 24 hour access to the bikes, and each ride below 30 minutes is free. If a ride continues past 30 minutes it's £2 for every additional 30 minutes. There are docks on Lots Road and Upcerne Road. Get more info here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/santander-cycles
