Parks & gardens within 30 mins
Parks and gardens with plenty of outdoor fun for all the family - from 5 mins walk up to 30min drive.
Poole park is a 5 min walk from the house - turn left from house; walk under bridge until you reach park gates.
Plenty to do here -
Water sports: - hire boats, pedallos or kayaks from rockley water sports. Swim at the dolphin pool.
Tennis courts :- tennis courts overlook lake and harbour. Bring your own racket and balls though.
Park train - travel around the park on this great model train.
Park run - join in park run on Saturday mornings. Good outdoor playground. Excellent day out
Bowling - beautiful bowing green and pavilion.
Cricket pitch
Playground - fantastic adventure playground for all ages. Includes zip wire.
Model boating lake - if you have a model boat there is a lake solely for model boat enthusiasts.
Outdoor cinema - in summer holidays there is an outdoor cinema showing a range of family favourites.
Indoor stuff:-
indoor adventure play at The Ark. Ideal for under 7s.
Ice rink - indoor ice rink for under 7s
Restaurants, cafes, ice cream - all excellent with outstanding views.
Head to Poole park any day of the week and in all weathers and you will find something for everyone. If you are not up for sailing on the lakes then simply take the kids for a walk through the beautiful nature gardens; take a picnic; football or frisbee and walk around the lakes.

Fantastic sandy beach on one side of the peninsula and spectacular harbour views across to brown sea island on the other side.

Fantastic sandy beach on one side of the peninsula and spectacular harbour views across to brown sea island on the other side.
Another glorious part of the beach but a much less known than sandbanks beach. My personal favourite!

Neighbourhoods
Boscombe has its own town centre and its own pier. There is great access to the beach front. It is often quicker to get there by train - the station 5 mins walk from the house is called Parkstone despite the area being called Ashley Cross or Lower parkstone! The station at Boscombe is called Pokesdown - 5 mins walk from Boscombe shops and cafes. The journey is only about 10 mins - whereas driving during busy times can take 40 mins, but without traffic 20mins
There is also a direct bus - M2 - that runs every 10mins (40 mins juorney time)

If you want quality independent gift and clothes shops; hairdressers and nail bars the Westbourne is worth a trip. It is especially good for coffee shops, restaurants and bars. Great for a night out wining and dining and you can jump in a taxi from the taxi rank and get back to the house in under 10mins which will cost under £10.

Chine - chines are tree lined steep pathways leading to the beach. The trees are Branksome pines, and unique to this area. They are poorly signposted, despite being the way to access parts of the beach. When it is very busy, park at the top of the chine and walk down. Check out: Branksome-Dene Chine; Branksome Chine; Deadwood Chine which leads to Alum Chine; Durley Chine.
