Kuzguncuk is a district located in Üsküdar district on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. The settlement on the Anatolian coast of the Bosphorus, between Üsküdar, Paşalimanı and Beylerbeyi, was formed in the northwest-southeast direction and developed in a valley opening to the Bosphorus. Its name comes from a saint named “Kuzgun Baba” who settled here during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror. Kuzguncuk is the first Jewish settlement in the Asian part of Istanbul. Although the date of the arrival of the Jews is unknown, Kuzguncuk is referred to as a Jewish village in the 17th century sources.
