Tsiklitira House
In a central part of Pylos, right next to the Town Hall, in the port, dominates the restored and impressive Tsiklitira house, the home of the great Olympian Kostas Tsiklitira, who came from there. A statue has been erected in his honor in Pylos and his house, after being bought, has been turned into a museum. Today it houses the collection of Philhellenic journalist Rene Puaux (1878-1837) which was transferred from Stratona Maizonos to Niokastro.
Rene Puaux's collection includes exhibits that are all currently in the Tsiklitira house: engravings, lithographs, porcelains, metal objects, and works of art, relating to persons and situations during the Greek revolution of 1821.
Kostas Tsiklitiras participated in the Olympic games of 1908, where he came second in two events, and in 1912, winning two gold medals in the high jump and in the event of the time, the long jump. He served the Greek army in the First Balkan War in the Battle of Byzantium, which was fought in 1913 in Epirus, between Greece and Turkey. Unfortunately, Tsiklitiras died at a young age, just 25 years old, from meningitis.

To the left and right of the entrance, the two large bastions are preserved. The northern side of the wall reaches 11 meters high and the two bastions communicated with each other through a covered passage. The wall is reinforced with square towers on the NE side and a large round one on the NW. To build it, well-worked stones were used that were coated with mortar.
The place where the castle of Methoni is located has been fortified since the 7th century BC. It was used as a fortress by the Byzantines, then it passed into the hands of the Venetians with the Treaty of Sapienza in 1209. The castle then experienced great development as it was fortified and built with Venetian architecture, while in 1500 it was handed over to Pasha Bayazid II and the area was led to decline. It was occupied in 1685 by the forces of Francesco Morosini, but in 1715 it was recaptured by the Turks with Damat Ali Pasha and thus Methoni became the seat of the Pasha of W. Messinia.
