Sightseeing

Greycliff Hotel is set in the historic part of Nassau, and its street has undergone huge and beautiful renovations. Greycliff itself is a Chocolate and Cigar factory, as well as a luxury hotel and restaurant. They offer tours (interactive or walkthrough) of their factory and are the only source of genuine Cuban cigars in the Bahamas. Also on their street are some small cafes which offer gelato and sorbetto made fresh every day - I can personally vouch for how delicious it is!

This fort is opposite Arawak Cay - also known as the Fish Fry - so you can visit for for great food at the same time! At night there are also many bars that open up along this area too. If you have time to visit only one fort, see this one. It is by far the largest and covers 100 acres. Located on a hill overlooking the far west end of the harbour, Fort Charlotte commands an impressive view of Paradise Island, Nassau and the harbour. Built in 1788 by Lord Dunmore the fort was named after the wife of King George III, Queen Saharia Charlotte. The middle bastion, Ft. Stanley and the western portion, Ft. D'Arcy were added later. This fort has a moat, dungeons, underground passageways and 42 cannons, which have never been fired in an act of aggression.

Food Scene

This area houses a whole bunch of native restaurants and bars - brilliant for buying conch salad made in front of you by skilled chefs, trying local dishes such as souse and conch fritters, or relaxing on the neighbouring beach with sky juice (a coconut based alcoholic drink)

Arts & Culture

This Museum is housed in Vendue House - an old colonial building thought to have been built in the 1760s. In 1992, it was given over for use as a public museum, named for Pompey, a slave who raised a revolt against unfair conditions on the Rolle Plantation on the island of Exuma. Whist guests may be familiar with the historic "Triangle" slave trade, you may be interested in seeing how it operated within the Bahamas.

Shopping

Right next to the Pompey Slavery and Emancipation Museum (ignore airbnb's location marker) there is a small market that is the last bastion of hand-made, high quality Bahamian goods - the old straw market having been unfortunately flooded with cheap Chinese products. This is one of very, very few places I would recommend a guest visit for a nice souvenir or gift.

Drinks & Nightlife

It's a Bar, Restaurant, and live music venue with good value for money meals. Definitely a must-visit location even if it's just for the free shots and games they play. It's an incredibly fun and upbeat environment whatever your age.

Under new management it is simply 'The Pub', and is the cheapest bar around with $2 shots and a Table Football/Fussbal. Definitely a recommended spot!

Along Woodes Rogers Walk, Pirates is a new location with new micro-brews. During the day they have a very entertaining Pirate that stands outside, and inside at night they have beer pong tables and lots of seating.

4 beers + 4 shots for 8 dollars. Need I say more? It's at the Tikki Hut during the day on Junkanoo Beach. Bring a volleyball when you go :)
