Renovated mill, perfect spot to stop for coffee on way to Hay, brilliant local butchers aswell. The Café and Bakery are situated within Melin Talgarth Mill in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The Mill was one of several projects featured in the BBC TV Series ‘Village SOS’. A group of volunteers came together to apply for a big lottery grant (£400k) to restore a derelict water mill to grind flour and open a Café and Bakery including a wood fired oven. The process was filmed as part of the project. The Café, which is rented from the Mill, was opened in July 2011 just before the television programme was screened.

Parks & Nature

Llangorse is a lovely village boasting two pubs, a beautiful 15th Century church as well as access to Llangorse Lake, the largest natural lake in south east Wales. The lake is a protected wildlife site but is also home to many watersports with boats for hire and has an ancient Crannog (a Royal Palace), built in the Dark Ages - a reconstruction of which can now be visited. Pony trekking, indoor climbing and high wire courses are available locally. Llangorse is easily accessible from the A40 as you head through the National Park from the village of Bwlch where you can pick up supplies from the local farm shop or well stocked village stores who have also recently opened a cafe.

Carreg Cennen Castle never ceases to amaze. There are few castles in Wales which can boast a more spectacular location. Its stout, weatherbeaten ruins crown a sheer limestone crag overlooking the remote Black Mountain (Mynydd Du) and the River Cennen in the western corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park, around four miles southeast of Llandeilo. An attack on the castle must have been a daunting prospect. Ingeniously adapted to its rocky hilltop, its core is a high walled, strongly towered enclosure, protected by a succession of pits, drawbridges and gatehouses. Approach from the other direction is impossible, for the castle tiptoes on the edge of a sheer 100m cliff.

Blaenavon grew around an ironworks[3] opened in 1788, part of which is now a museum.[4] The steel-making and coal mining industries followed, boosting the town's population to over 20,000 at one time,[5] but since the ironworks closed in 1900 and the coal mine in 1980, the population has declined.
