This is the place to go for a consistently high standard of cuisine. The staff are unobtrusive yet attentive, the menu interesting and the wine list interesting. There may be a longer wait than some are happy with, but when the meal arrives, it truly shouts freshly cooked, freshly prepared. And the rhubarb crème brulee is fantastic!

The Dog with Two Tails is an awesome cafe, the staff is super nice, the coffee is amazing, so is the food, and at night, the cafe becomes a bar! Live music almost everyday.

There is Matakaea Scenic Reserve with Fur Seal and Pinguins.
This is the most significant breeding site for yellow-eyed penguins/hoiho in North Otago. When you enter the reserve, take the track to your left to the penguin viewing hide. Here you can view penguins in their natural habitat without disturbing them. Keep noise to a minimum. Best viewing is before 9 am and after 3 pm.
The beach cannot be accesssed.
The lighthouse keeper's house is used as a private rehabilitation centre for sick and injured penguins and other birds. The centre is run by Katiki Point Penguin Trust. The trust and its volunteers protect penguins from predation by trapping feral cats, ferrets and stoats.

You are not allowed to turn your car around in the street so have to view it from down below but hey its in the Guiness Book of records as the steepest so have a look!
