Parks & Nature

Beautiful on a spring and summer day. And you can't miss https://ccc.govt.nz/news-and-events/events/show/169 a beautiful display of costumes - flowers, trees, seeds, leaves, all made by hand by Jenny Gillies. $5 per adult. And the Ilex cafe is lovely with a beautiful shop attached where you can get a unique gift to take home with you.

Arts & Culture

You can get lost in here and we often do! From early Maori history to modern day, there's something here for everyone. There's a cafe as well and being right next to the Botanic Gardens and across the road from the Arts Centre, its a great few hours to spend on a number of different things.

This is a recently opened shopping area in the central city, one of the first to open after the earthquakes. Well worth a look.

Sightseeing

This is where the French settled in NZ in the 1800's. It retains much of the French flavour, in street names and other nuances. You can swim with the dolphins, check out the lighthouse, go to the cinema, paddleboat, swim in the sea or just people watch from one of the cafes and restaurants along the seawall.

The names of the 185 people who died in the Canterbury Earthquake in Feb 2011, are named of the wall that surrounds this riverside memorial. It is a peaceful place in the centre of the city.
