The Lakeside Forest Wilderness Area is a 140-acre nature paradise located in the middle of Branson. Finding these beautiful trails and glades in the heart of the city is like stumbling upon a secret garden, complete with a nature playground and covered porch swing for the kiddos.

Looking for a great hiking trail? If you don’t mind a few stairs, the view is worth it!

My favorite trails in the Branson area! And the best part? It's free! My favorite part about this trail is the three small caves you can find and explore. (Most websites say there is only two caves, but there is three. You just have to hike a good ways farther to find one of the larger caves) At the beginning of the hike, there is a map. Take a picture of it with your phone. In order to see all three caves, take the blue trail until you get to the historic Owen homestead. There are some plaques with some interesting history about one of the caves. Continue left down the blue trail. You will have to descend 338 stone steps so be careful. Near the bottom of the steps you will find the first and smallest cave. Once you reach the end of the blue trail, take a left on the purple trail. You will come to a large grotto and waterfall. You will need to hike down to the bottom of the grotto and up the other side to continue on the purple trail. It is down this tail you will find the two larger caves. But one is much farther down the trail than the other. In order to return to your starting location, you will have to backtrack, although if you want to avoid the stone steps, you can take the red trail around instead. Be careful! The hike is fairly long and difficult.
