The Altes Museum, built between 1823 and 1830 after the design by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, is one of the most important works in the architecture of Classicism. Its dignified architecture is the perfect setting for its ancient Etruscan pottery, as well as Greco-Roman statues, bronze tools,…

“This is Berlin's Egyptian museum, as well a museum of both prehistory and early history. Displayed are not only artifacts but also testimonies of travelers and expeditions that allowed for the rediscovery of Ancient Egypt and lead to the phenomenon of 18th-century egyptomania that swept Europe. Most of the rooms are decorated in the style of Ancient Egyptian palaces and tombs, or with romantized scenes from its history painted in absolutely amazing frescos. Largely destroyed during the second world war, this 19th-century building has reopened not so many years ago, after a beautiful and intricate restoration process lead by David Chipperfield. Open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 10:00 and 18:00. On Thursdays it is open from 10:00 to 20:00.”

“Under the title 'How Enemies Became Friends', the Allied Museum documents the political history and the military roles of the Western Allies (USA, France and Great Britain) in Germany, particularly Berlin, and their contribution to liberty in Berlin during the Cold War era. It begins with the German defeat in World War II.”

“Bebelplatz: Site of first Nazi book burning in 1933 Ironically, the square is better remembered today as the venue for the Nazi's first official book burning bonfire on May 10, 1933 just opposite Humboldt University, where Karl Marx had been a student of Hegel's. The action, meant as a dire warning to Nazi opponents was instigated with the purposes of destroying the "Jewish mind and the whole rotten liberalist tendency". Over 20,000 works including those of the so-called subversive writers including Karl Marx, Berthold Brecht and Thomas Mann were set alight and destroyed.”
