There is a rather extensive public bus system with two stops right out your doorstep on Liberty Avenue. Route 54 serves North Side - Strip - Oakland - Southside and Route 86 serves Downtown - East Liberty - Homewood - Wilkinsburg

The #17 Shadland stops at the corner and goes to Downtown but I will tell you it is not the fastest way to get there. I am literally a 10 min drive by car and the bus will take 45 min to get to town & if you need to get to Oakland you will need a transfer. But if you are just wanting to see some of the North Side of Pittsburgh it's a great opportunity.
