Since I don't like the noise, I prefer to walk away from the bars. On the south part of this lake, you can often find a quiet spot to see the lake, sometimes some locals swimming also.
Good for a stroll, and you can also rent paddle boats by the hour. Feel free to take beers and snacks on the boat, and watch the tourists go by - and the old dudes swimming in the lake. We don't recommend you jump in, however.
Best time to enjoy the area is during winter: when the lake is frozen you can do ice skating and go sledding. For Chinese New Year it is also a very nice spot to enjoy fireworks with both locals and foreigners.
