Museum which tells you about the history of the area of Dalkeith. The coal mines which brought revenue to the area & what it entailed, a very interesting morning or afternoon out for the whole family!

Scotland relied heavily on the mining industry. This excellent museum lets you travel into a mine shaft to see the sights and conditions endured by the workers. Also has a cafe and a soft play for small children.

Midlothian contains vast quantities of coal under its beautiful landscape and many of the small villages around here were built for coal miners. The museum gives a great insight into the area’s history.
