Not exactly en route to anything - except if you´re going to Reykjanes peninsula, perhaps South coast. Or returning a rental car to Hafnarfjörður. Gas at Costco is almost 20 perc. cheaper compared to anywhere in Reykjavík; and by far the best priced Camping gear, and Electronics. But you´ll need a customer subscription to shop - costs around 40 USD. Worth it for a longer stay and a lot of gas.

Remember to take your Costco card with you, best price on gas and lot of things to buy for your day tours

The opening of Costco caused a nationwide shopping spree. If you have a membership card this is the cheapest place to buy things in bulk. Also of note they have the cheapest gas station in Iceland.
