Monument built in 1782 on Fyrish Hill. Great views over the Black Isle. Allow a couple of hours for the walk (quite steep). 28 kilometers.

The Fyrish Monument is a monument built in 1782 on Fyrish Hill in Evanton, near Alness. It was built on the orders of Sir Hector Munro, a native lord of the area who had served in India. It was built to keep local people in work during the Highland clearances. It represents the Gate of Negapatam, a port in Madras, India. It is a moderate walk up the hill but can be slippy when the path is wet. Best to have walking boots.

Only 5 minute drive from Cuillich Mill to the car park and then it’s a 2mile climb to the top. Stunning 360deg views of the Cromarty and surrounding mountains. Perfect at sunrise or sunset too!
