Gould's Inlet is a favorite of ours for walks on the beach and looking for wildlife. There are usually several tidal pools - which my children enjoy exploring and hunting for marine life. There is a small hose-off area at this access.
Arrive early, bring a couple of chairs and a carafe of coffee to catch the sunrise.
This is why you came to SSI...the magnificent coastal view and beach access. While this part of East Beach doesn't have any facilities (you have to go to Coast Guard Beach for that), the quiet and relaxing atmosphere really helps you be one with the beach. Enjoy.
We enjoy coming here because it is oftentimes one of the quieter spots on the beach. Be mindful of rip tides and only swim close to shore. We do not recommend swimming out to the sand bar.
On the northern tip of East Beach is Gould’s Inlet. Not primarily a beach destination, but rather a bird watching, fishing and ocean observation area. Here you can see the southern end of Sea Island, just across the river inlet, and observe many varieties of coastal birds. During your visit you will most likely encounter fishermen as well as paddleboarders off the distant sandbars catching some waves. This beach access location offers a shower, water hose, and benches. Please note that there is limited parking. Gould's Inlet is considered a wildlife beach area, and is home to a large population of shorebirds. Help conserve shorebirds by leaving dogs leashed and staying on the wet sand.
