Old Rag Mountain
The only major hike we can recommend - its a 1.5 hour drive and in the Shenandoahs. Really great and challenging climb with some bouldering near the peak. You won't need any specialized gear but expect to sweat a lot!
One of the most popular and dangerous of the hikes in the Shenandoah national park. This hike won’t disappoint but do your research and be prepared.
Our favorite Hike. We like going up and back vs around the full loop. Go early and enjoy the views!
“My go-to restaurant in Madison, with a chef-owner who is actually Italian and who likes to prepare food properly. Not expensive.”
“I'm personally not a wine drinker, however this place has a lot of different events and a nice atmosphere....and it's my grandmother's homeplace! :-)”
“Our favorite, and the closest to the Cottage, DuCard has great wine. They host music and food events. Check their website to see what's going on this weekend! Cottage guests are eligible to receive a free wine tasting coupon. ”

“President & Mrs. Hoover’s summer retreat. The camp featured Clore furniture and when the Shop burned down, President Hoover lent my great grandaddy the money to rebuild. The Peggy & Peter child’s table and chairs are named in honor of the President’s grandchildren. Troy has all this documented from his MaMaw, my Aunt Lucy Frances.”
