Tucked in the canyons above Malibu you'll find Sandstone Peak, the highest peak in the Santa Monica Mountains. A steep 1.5 mile hike to the top offers commanding view of the ocean and channel islands.

f you’re looking for a fun and fairly short hike just outside of the Conejo Valley, check out the Grotto Hike at Circle X Ranch in Malibu. This is such a cool hidden little area that most people have no idea it exists. It’s an easy mile and a half walk down to the grotto area. The grotto is this awesome cave area with huge boulders that you can climb in and even swim. You can also bring your lunch and hang out in the caves for a picnic. It’s a great easy hike that kids will love. It’s one of mine and my kids favorites.

Intermediate hike (2 to 8 mile loop options), top of the world views on the beginning of the Boney Ridge, north end of the Backbone Trail, which runs all the way across Malibu.
